Nixon > Reagan - Cape Breton Bruins
Reagan's legacy is the current state of the Middle East, and the continued assumption among his republican descendants that giving money to billionaires helps anyone other than billionaires. |

It's weird people still believe in that system. And I mean poor Republican voters. |

What do you mean by "giving money to billionaires"?
Most progressives think that letting billionaires keep more of there own money, is "giving them money" ............ just wonder if you do too. - D0PPELGANGER

Massive tax breaks to the rich honkey tonks - Cape Breton Bruins
When a government, at any level, lowers taxes, the beneficiary of the lower tax rate, is keeping more of their earned income.
Progressives spin this into "giving them money", as if all money belongs to government, and what ever they allow you to keep, you should be grateful for.
Fact is, that "government" does not generate money, in any way, shape of form, they just keep taking more and more of peoples/businesses money that they've generated.
When Federal Government lowered the GST by 2%, they did not sent out cheques to each and every citizen from the National treasury. In reality, and this is what progressive fail to comprehend, people were just allowed to keep more of their own money, to do with as they saw fit.

A fairly broad generalisation but not entirely without merit, I suppose. |

Would you be in favour of an across the board flat rate percentage for all citizens regardless of income?

When any government tries to "Fix" the economy, as in raising the minimum wage, they always end up doing more harm than good.
Our PM, Socky McSockface, has already burdened small businesses with his hidden Carbon tax, and is 100% behind the "raise the min, wage" initiative that is happening in Ontario, Alberta and other jurisdictions.
All this will do is raise prices, freeze hiring, reduce workers hours, make it more likely to bring in automation and the government will receive less taxes (and CPP, EI)
I recently read that one prominent Ontario Liberal supporter, that “40% of working people in Ontario are earning at or below minimum wage.”
This is a lie, and is only designed to get low information voters behind this bad plan, to raise the min. wage.
According to Statistics Canada, between 1997 and 2014, only 10.9% of workers, in Ontario, earned minimum wage, 49% of these minimum wage earners were 15 to 19 years of age, and 15% were aged 20 to 24, so mostly high school, college and university students.
Why progressives need to lie to low information voters to get their flawed economic policies approved by the sheeple is an admission that it's just politics, and is designed to get them re-elected and has nothing to do with helping min wage workers.

If all other taxes are eliminated, plus the government bureaucracy that administrators them are also eliminated ........... then a flat tax rate would be an improvement on the hodge podge of numerous taxes we have now ................. but when have you known a government to downsize it's workforce on that level.

Some of the anti min wage raise points have merit and it's disingenuous to proclaim otherwise.
I like the tenured approach with tiers. Start at whatever the current min wage is(yearly increase with inflation), after 6 months on the job move to the next bracket(say $13 with inflation increase) and after one year you achieve the highest tier($15 with inflation increase). |

That would just lead to high turnover rates. |

More so than before, minimum wage businesses would actively limit employment to 6 month or yearly contracts thus making sure never to pay the top level minimum wage. This places minimum wage workers in an even more precarious position as they would need to constantly deal with the stress of finding new jobs. |

This is a good and fair argument but I think there is fair counter argument as well that sticking with the new job through these thresholds could act as an incentive for folks seeking that higher wage. The hiring and training of new employees is a costly venture to employers, especially new businesses who are already operating under pretty thin profit margins. With some simple regulations that prevents contracting minimum wage workers to a term(which isn't really a thing right now) workers who will spend the majority of their working life in these types of jobs (virtually everybody where I'm from) would benefit from the increasing wage and the small businesses in particular would retain their more loyal and dedicated workers without going through the never ending process of hiring and training due to turnover.
New businesses would also benefit through that crucial first year of sink or swim with low profit margins as the increases in labour would be gradual hopefully spurring new start ups.
Or just raise em to $15 and see what happens. |
