I know my parents felt they were at a disadvantage when I was growing up, but part of that was due to pay exorbitant taxes and not even getting a paved road out of it.

Part of owning a bunch of land in an area where nobody else lives though, so... *shrug* It's not that way anymore.

You gotta remember that there was no context whatsoever for the struggles that other people in the world had at that time.

You couldn't get a newspaper. You had access to 2 TV channels (sometimes) which only showed local news. The internet wasn't really a thing yet... The only people you knew were the other 100 or so local farming families who were all in the same boat.

Yep.

I know that some of what we thought were issues back then look pretty stupid now, but at the time there was nothing malicious about it, they just didn't know any better.

I remember teachers saying things like Black History Month were stupid and discriminatory and "It's been two hundred years, people should get over it." Of course, most of them had never even seen a person who wasn't either a white christian or native...
