Doesn't your major depend on the courses you took? - dt99999
They don't really care about undergrad poop. It's not going to change their minds that you took marketing 602 rather than Civil War History.
To be honest, a certification in a relevant field is way more important than a class in college.
My point is that courses don't get you jobs. Experience gets you jobs and it's much easier to get good experience when your parents are wealthy and know people. |

For sure.
But I think what he meant if I can translate from d0ppsian is don't be surprised if you major in eastern philosophy and end up working at starbucks. |

It's cute that you think employers care about which courses you take. They care about experience and you get experience in college and high school by doing internships and you get the best internships by willing to work for free and you can work for free if mommy and daddy are able to pay for your poop.
I have never been asked about a course I took during an interview. All they want to know is my major and my gpa. - PhillySportsGuy
Look, this is what I mean.............. there are far more jobs waiting for graduates with degrees in the Computer / Software engineering fields of study.......... than there are for graduates with degrees in Philosophy.
People have to look at what skills are in demand and sectors of the economy are hiring .................. there are only so many jobs that require a degree in Liberal Arts, but from what I've heard those who graduate from these courses can't find work in that field of study.

This gets a strong "meh" for me. I worked for a recruiting agency. All that mattered was the existence of a degree.
Most emerging industries don't really have university programs that tie directly to them... I studied business and IT, and I work in digital advertising, but I only can tangentially draw from what I learned in school. Everything else is new. |

If their Parents prioritized annual trips to the Caribbean in the winter, living "pay cheque to pay cheque" because of spending more money on wants instead of needs, subscribing to higher cost Cable/Cellphone packages than they needed to, owning two cars instead of one and many other choices ............ then why should taxpayers cough up their money in higher taxes, to pay for their poor parenting skills?
I speak from experience and from observation, I know it can be done...... it' choice between saving for your child's education, or unnecessary perks that you can do without once you make the decision to have children. - D0PPELGANGER
So for you, the lowest possible financial state is a family that can chose between Caribbean vacations, and making contributions to an RESP.
This is why people laugh at conservatives. |

I had a job as a bike messenger, it was great because it gave me flexible hours, and some clients were generous tippers.
I still relied on OSAP and help from family to make ends meet. I guess part of the problem is I wanted to to go to school through the summer, so I could get into the workforce faster. |

Yea, it really is infuriating.
Side note: On the media is a great podcast, and they did a 5-part series exposing poverty myths in the states. Worth a listen. Parts of the US see less social mobility than feudal Europe.
These same parts wound up voting for Trump. How (frank)ed is that? They hear tax cuts, and think that it'll help bring them out of poverty... and then a family member gets sick, they pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to try and save them, and hey, it turns out those tax cuts weren't for them anyways. |

a lot of my work involves excel reports. Great time to throw on a podcast and learn something new.
The Carlin King of Kings series is great. 12 hours long.
His WW1 series was over 20 hours. |

Again you take my words and twist them around to mean something completely unrelated ........... but that's your thing.
Don't know why you millennials have fell head over heels in love with socialism, but I guess it has something to do with your expectations of getting everything you want, when you want it, without having to do the heavy lifting yourselves.
Perhaps you were too young to remember when Ontarionians decided to give a whirl and handed the seat of power to the NDP, who promised all the regular pie in the sky things socialsts do, but once handed power realize it so much easier to criticize and make unkeepable promises........
No one is owed an University education, and for anyone to think that a society could function with everyone who wanted one, had one handed to them by the taxpayer, they'd better wake up from dream land, because there would never be enough tax revenues generated to fund this utopian dream, and all the other entitlements to boot.

I'm twisting your words, eh?
Well if you see other possibilities for financial situations, why don't you speak to them? Why don't you stop blaming parents for valuing Caribbean vacations over their kids' educations?
And instead of a diatribe against an entire generation, frequently used by idiots who don't understand that a generation includes many differently types of people, why don't you post that list of easily acquired jobs?
And finally, you'd still have to earn your way into school. We wouldn't have to worry about people who can't think critically, or make a coherent argument- like yourself- burning tax payers' dollars for a wasted education.

No. But he has explained to great extent how people from all socio-economic groups that happen to be born after 1982 are just lazy, and want handouts instead of doing those jobs he can't seem to think of. |

Look, if any of you ever had a child who graduated High school, you would know that in their last year, they attend meeting with various Universities that set up "job fair" like presentations, and students can research various career choices and related course programs being offered and information relating to how various degrees in all fields of study translate to the workforce ........... and the percentage of graduates from these different courses who move into that field of work.
I doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out, after researching various course options, which ones will give a graduate a higher chance of employment.
If a high-school graduate chooses to enter a particular course that shows close to 90% of it's graduates (in the past) received full time job offers in the sector that demands the skills taught in that course ........ then that would be a good choice.
Students who choose to take courses that don't show a high percentage of job opportunities with that skill set, should not be surprised they can't find a job when they graduate. |

This still does not explain how they pay for it without the aid of parents. You continue to make arguments against points no one is making. |
