No team in history has failed at committing to re-build as long as Toronto did. The only way we could be worse is to never do it. The facts are we only missed the playoffs a whole 1 year in a row and had 101 points two years ago. If you want to admire the Canucks for the same reason, I guess we have to suck for 50 years first. Great plan.

What does the last 45 years have anything to do with the current managements plan in Toronto, please enlighten me with your wisdom. Let me spare you the trouble, it has nothing to do with their current model. Three years ago when Shanahan came on board they had a vision, one that no other Leafs management had tried since expansion, that's what I'm referring to.

Your whole 50 years bs might fool someone but it really has zero to do with their past three years.

Personally I'd like the Canucks management to start selling assets, rebuild thru the draft, take the pain for four or five years and hope like hell it works out.

Right on. They had the perfect out when they canned torts. They could have really set themselves up perfectly to get players in really, really strong drafts. Instead they made the same mistakes and try to retool on the fly.

Why? because they were afraid of a drop in ticket sales. Well guess what, the dopes find themselves in the exact same position and no further ahead.

Drives me nuts.

Where's Don and his pom poms?

A little down in here. We need a big cheer to pick us up.

Come on Don, tell us how this roster is better than last seasons!

Is it a stealth tank when you are clearly the worst team in the league and do nothing about it?

My fear is that this is not a tank.

I don't think the words stealth and Jim Benning should be used in the same sentence.

Pretty sure he sent out a press release about to all other NHL general managers... Just like the whole "Chris Higgins is available for trade guys!"

The best tanks are the unstealthy ones that way you can say "we worked really hard to get the 1OA pick"

So painful to watch. But this is when JB can take control and right the wrongs. If you can't win games then change the style of play. Get your players producing. Drive up what little value they have and then dump the whole (frank)ing lot of them (except the prospects you obviously need to keep).

Hey,

New blog is up. My positive for the day: Markus Granlund not only has more goals than Hunter Shinkaruk, he also has more goals than his more highly-touted (and more expensive) brother Mikael!

The rest of the content is pretty grim, though...

He's on the extended holiday, not the quick time out you had. He has to work on his reputation to get to that level.

The canucks are fantastic at kick-starting goalie careers.

I feel the same way, I think TL & JB are just waiting for ownership to pull the plug and start a real re-build. The longer FA waits the worse this is going to be. Finishing dead last might kick FA in the ass and make something happen. This team is going to need 3-4 years of top-5 picks to do a real re-build, but if FA waits

We won that game and the Flames failed to score a single goal. Horvat's line had a +87 corsi.

Looking at what has happened the last 9 games....

- boonerbuck

So you think its good coaching to start Horvat on the 4th line with two grinders who over the course of a season won't provide much scoring help is a good idea for Horvat's development and for the team to win? I kind of thought that's why we got Sutter was so that Horvat and Henrik didn't have to take so many tough defensive assignments and that they could be used in a more offensive situations? Just seems like we're getting mixed signals from the coach about what's going on.
