Few things:

Ekblad is miles ahead of anyone in that draft class

Leon has 2 more pts in 1 extra game, the other Sam has less in 1 more game, Virtanen is back in the minors again I believe. The only ones that have "significant" points more than him are Ehlers and Nylander so it isn't like he's getting blown out of the water by his own class at all.

He did his best with Jack. Jack is not there. Samson is a playmaker, he creates with vision. With Jack not being here there was going to be a regression...

A rebuilding team needs a little more than one high end player at each position. The idea that they would have up and dumped their second overall pick because they were 'stuck' with Ekblad is patently absurd.
