I think what contributed to that was also the fact that the NHL made a definitive effort to reduce the clutch and grab that reduced scoring. If you even looked like you were trying to hold someone up, it was a penalty.

The team speed the Sabres had at that time was second to none on at least three lines. As soon as the NHL reset and stopped calling stuff so strictly, the next year's playoffs, that team didn't do so hot.

Couple things...

- Risto is a #1...anyone who says differently is not watching these games

- Baptiste is looking really good

- Rhino stepped up when it counted...but he played very timidly for most of the game

- Unlucky for Girgs...should have won the game in OT

- Give credit to Bylsma...he played to win in OT (even though he played for the tie the entire 2nd half of the game

In the end its another point left on the table that could come back to haunt us

Yep, and that takes time to build. Look at the teams you just mentioned, back when the most successful team in recent history was at its height, those teams were stuck in the middle of their rebuild, they WERE TERRIBLE. And they're rebuild took much longer, the Penguins at that time had Malkin, Crosby, Fleury and I believe Letang and Orpik at that time and each time they came to Buffalo, you felt like it was a win in the bank, Chicago, I won't even get into.

You just cited the good goaltending and puck possesion, that leads to wins, but it's going to take TIME to build that.

If the game was called then like it is now, you wouldn't have a 40 goal scorer on the third line, even with all that talent. To be honest I don't think they were all that talented, it was just a perfect storm of how the team was built and the league cracking down on interference. Pretty sure league wide scoring is down when compared with that year. Someone can check me on that as I'm just going with my gut.

The offense will pick up.

I'm not to upset with the team now but we did give away a few points. I'm not expecting much out of Girgensons, Larsson has out played him since last year. IMO, it's time for Ennis to move on and that may still happen, Stars called a few weeks ago about him.

We don't care! Also, I think we are fun to watch last season and this season. Not every team is as flashy as Chicago. It's ok to just win any way necessary.
