I think it can be a useful tool when used correctly. But it's still in its nascent form in hockey and we're not quite sure what stats to use as a baseline. And the outright exclusion of special teams makes no sense either.

I agree but this isnt just one or two numbers. eye test, analytics, basic stats tend to point towards the team being better defensively when tanev is on the ice vs off. I used those specific numbers because those happen to be the ones we are worst at defensively and the teams that tend to do well are usually amongst the elite.
