I know it's not a popular statement but I really miss McGinn. Guy was a big body in front of the net and has an eye for the net. I'd take him over all of Ennis, Kane and Girgensons. A hard worker who can actually hit the net 3.3 mill is nothing too |

I agree but this isnt just one or two numbers. eye test, analytics, basic stats tend to point towards the team being better defensively when tanev is on the ice vs off. I used those specific numbers because those happen to be the ones we are worst at defensively and the teams that tend to do well are usually amongst the elite. - Sabresfan-365
Stats also eliminate bias. We have seen Bogo 10x more than Tanev. The numbers reaffirm our position, but make someone who likes Bogo doubt the numbers vlaidity.
If we were a great team, with great numbers, we'd have a few more stats people here |

Disagree. They just introduce new bias. Like special teams don't matter. |

I was talking about stats in general. I'm a fan of Tanev. He's a dying breed. Think Jay McKee, but probably better. |

There are a few of us that really liked him. But when he wanted $5M even I balked at that. But $3.3M is an absolute steal. Guy can play anywhere in the lineup and more importantly be effective playing anywhere. |

If you've never watched player A play, but have watched player B 100 times, are you going to be able to give as fair of an assessment if you were to just compare there numbers?
Nobody watches all 30 teams all the time |

I think that's really the best way to describe him. He's not the fastest guy, not the meanest guy, but he's just good at everything. And will score a few here and there just by virtue of playing a lot. But 89's not wrong, he does seem to be hurt a lot. His GP since his rookie year: 29, 25, 38(lockout year), 64, 70, 69, and 7 so far this year. |

Right. And the GA/60 numbers you posted feel like hard data. But the stuff about shot suppression and high danger chances don't feel the same.
Height and weight, and bench reps are all stats, and we can presume bigger stronger guys will be better players than smaller weaker guys, but nobody really looks at those numbers because they're not reliable. It's an exaggerated but similar concept |

I agree with that, that's not my issue. My issue is the stats they use, how they define certain things, like what's the line between high danger and medium danger scoring chances? And again totally excluding all special teams play, the discounting of faceoffs. I understand the arguments, but I disagree with them. It's very narrowly useful, we all know that Patrice Bergeron is an elite player, but it is useful for the Jamie McGinns of the world. |
