Exactly, look down the road, picking up a 24 year old winger who will be 29 by the time you're good again is senseless.

And for the record it was McCann and a 2nd rounder for Gud.

- Pacificgem

No man . The Sedins will be here for two more years and we will extend them another four to provide a winger for Ericsoon. So in 6 years we can start the rebuild so the time we are ready to compete Saad will be forty

You have to explain it in layman terms for Red.

Would you spend 500 for a hooker on Hastings and Main

Would you spend 500 for a night with Salma Hayek

Heck, I'd pay 500 just for a night with her knickers and a wifi connection...

Starting goalie for a 29th placed team has the "flu" and will miss the game against the 30th placed team?

Christ, we're only 17 games in.

We have two starting goalies, unlike the Leafs who have two backup goalies.

Having a few players in their prime and well rooted in the team's culture is not a bad thing. Besides, Guddy may open up other options. If JB moves Tanev for instance... and he'll be good on a team full of younger players as well. He has a tremendous rep for leadership not to mention his reputation for protecting team mates. I wouldn't feel that when we are ready in 5 years(hypothetically), a 29-year-old in his prime is out of place either. There's room both short term and long term for a player like this.

It's simple to dismiss everything as senseless when you base it on a single move and not knowing what the GM is thinking down the road.

People seem to think if we do a long term rebuild, anything over the age of 24 on the team is deviating from the plan. Oilers model.

- boonerbuck

I agree with you 100% that you need veteran leaders on the team, helps if they're good to decent players too. My thoughts are they have so many holes to fill and so few tradeable assets to work with, trade a guy like Tanev for an absolute future need, a top six center.

For one the Avs are in a much different situation than the current rendition of the Canucks, they actually have good young players on their team. It's time for them to compete.

If Adam Larson can get one of the best LW in the league Tanev should be able to get you an unproven prospect.

- Pacificgem

If Martin Erat can fetch Filip Forsberg, Loui Eriksson should be able to fetch Brian Gionta.

Not too sure about that Kessel and Phanuef got the Leafs two empty lockers and a bad draft pick

My thoughts are they need a future number one center far worse. No issues with Saad, good young player, but nobody wins without a good one two center punch.

Very true you need layers in the youth core to be a relevant team or even a contender be it X number of years from now.
