Honestly, it was great. No line, so she got to do all of the pre-Santa activities (put her picture in an elf video, etc.). Went right up to Santa, then walked around for a while. Got caught up on 2 episodes of Timeless. Good times.

What did she ask for?

Maybe. Take the examples of Riley Cote and Jody Shelley. You knew these were your extra forwards, right? They knew they're role and I'm sure accepted they were sitting most nights. Does anyone on this roster believe they are the 13th or 14th forward?
- SuperSchennBros

I think VandeVelde is just amazed that he's on the roster every night, like he's some sort of (frank)ing Houdini who keeps pulling a rabbit out of his hat.

Sadly, we did not see him. But I would have given him a hug.

I think the Ghost and to a lesser degree the in game shift skipping of TK is Hak's attempt to curb bad habit forming in young players before they become routine.

I think proof of that is VDV....he does everything he is told and the coach knows what to expect, even if it is low ceiling impact. There may be more merit in your thought track then people want to believe. I would venture to say Hak may have even told guys on bench what to watch out for and maybe they didn't heed it or let their youthful exuberance override that and then you get a TK sitting a few shifts for Weise.

It's hard as a fan to watch, but probably is best for the long run. Deep down we all know we are still a wild card/low playoff seed type team this year, so why not get habits right for this crop of young players knowing you may have a whole new set coming in next year or two.....probably don't want a runaway train like the Oilers had been.

Very well thought.. on both Ghost and VDV.

This fan base has been pissing and moaning about Ghost not being the same as last year and trying too hard, and missing the net too much. But as soon as the coach tries to reset/ reboot Ghost the same fan base is ready to run the coach out of town.

As for VDV- Lyubimov seems to be a much better player, but is he being perceived as reliable yet in all of the game situations? Has he mastered NA hockey schema? Is he following the coach's instructions? We clearly do not know the answers to any of this questions, but, yet again, let's tar and feather the coach.

We all have and are entitled to our strong opinions. But without knowing the intricacies of the team's dynamic they will remain just opinions.

I assume that Hex is keeping his fingers on the team's and coaching's pulses and is in agreement with coach's decisions. And if we, as fan base, trust Hex we might as well trust Hak.

Hak has Lyubimov and Gordon as 13 and 14. But there's also Leier and Laughton in the AHL who are in their last season of being waiver-exempt, and could easily play 10 minutes on the 4th line and kill penalties for the Flyers right now.
- Feanor

Sure, I know Hak has them but if a kid like Lyubimov flies over seas to play for your team, why not send him down so he can play? Is Lyubimov a less player than Vandevelde because I don't see it. They might be close in skill but overall, has Lyubimov had really bad games? I think I've noted him every time he's played. Even looks dangerous at times.

This is coming from someone who doesn't like picking up players from overseas due to the period of adjustment.

I don't think he needs motivation. Ghost has been struggling a bit going all the way back to the end of last season and the playoffs. Teams at this point have at least partially "figured him out" and we see that in the way they pay attention to him on the ice. They did two things, one, they adjusted to how they play him in the offensive zone and PP, and two, they started attacking his side of the ice when he is in his own zone.

IMO Ghost hasn't done a good enough job adjusting to this so far. Maybe getting a birds eye view will help him to clear his head and refocus on some changes he needs to make in his game in both zones.

So....point made, lesson learned. Get him back on the ice, he has kept AMacs seat warm enough.

- MBFlyerfan

Even if teams have partially figured him out, it hasn't affected his ability to put up points.

This is just my speculation, but I think Hextall promised Lyubimov he would not be sent to the AHL. Which I think is fair enough for a 24 year old who moved his family from Russia to Philly. If he gets sent down, his salary drops from $832,500 to $70,000. There's also the fact that Lyubimov is the only healthy spare forward on the team right now.

Didn't really like the Ghost benching, but I kind of understand it. I just don't want to hear any of that "well since we won the last game, we're not making any lineup changes" now.

Not often I leave a 5-2 victory unimpressed by the team, but that was the case last night. Great game from Mason, but definitely feel like the team got outplayed and still looks like a dumpster fire trying to get the puck out of the D-zone.

But a win's a win and I'll take it

I think about it this way...

Bench VDV and replace him with a better player like Lyubimov, and you see a tangible impact.

- Feanor

Imo, VDV isn't going anywhere until Hak finally comes to the realization that he's not good at killing penalties.

We can female dog all day about Hak's lineup decisions. But to me, the scariest thing about him, is that he believes PEB and VDV are the top PKer's on this team. Its laughable at this point. Using those two to protect leads at the end of games will also come back to bite them at some point this year.

I think Ghost was scratched because he needed to get a different view of the game....
Maybe what coaches were probably asking for was not translating to his ice view.
They know he is a smart kid and thought maybe he needed to see things from a different perspective.
