I always find it hard to take Tanner seriously in any of his articles and this one is no exception. Calgary can survive without Johnny the same way Tampa can survive without Stamkos. They just gotta step up and play. Easier said than done, for sure, but saying they outright can't is ridiculous.

Calgary's been playing some good hockey of late, both with Johnny and without him. The team is finally starting to look like a team out there and they are playing well defensively. Plus, it'll give some other guys a chance to step up.

Calgary can survive just fine without him, and it's as simple as any other team surviving without their top player. Hockey has always been a team game and the team can survive without any one guy, top player or otherwise. Of course you would prefer not to have to, but every team does it once in a while.

I highly doubt he even watches the games. He says things for shock value only.

Can calgary survive without johnny!? Is this questions for real? Lmao! there's not a team in the league that couldn't survive having ten less turnovers a game.

Are seriously comparing Calgary to Tampa Bay?

When you are a bottom 10 team, losing your best player could crush your team. I will agree that others need to step up but filling in for your best player doesn't last very long.

I agree with you Tanner, Calgary just isn't very good this year. They were overrated to start the year.

SeMo is still hurting. JG is pissed off at the Flames for low balling him, you can see it in his play. When guys like Versteeg and Chiasson are in your top 6 your in trouble. Tkachuk is still learning, he's good but a lot pressure on him for a rookie. Bennett hasn't lit the world on fire. Their bottom 6 F aren't great. Their bottom 3 D aren't great, Hamilton is overrated. And goaltending, the Flames saviour, is terrible.

And ppl say the Canucks suck!

The big issue with the Flames was the high expectations, which weren't warranted.

And ppl would be correct ! The Canucks do suck. The difference is Calgary has found bottom and are bouncing off of it, while the Canucks are still falling.

I'm not even a little bit trying to claim that Calgary is as good as Tampa Bay. They aren't, plain and simple. I'm just saying that the process of the two teams living without their star players is pretty much the same. It's a Hell of a lot easier for Tampa than it is for Calgary, sure, but the process still remains similar.

But regardless, Calgary's been playing better hockey lately than they have been, starting with the game Johnny got injured. They can survive without him if they keep playing like that no matter how much harder it might be.
