Cal O' Reilly here over Derek Grant? I feel like this shouldnt even be a discussion. To be honest i wouldnt mind him on the PP either. He did well with his brother there last year. - gerbe42

I find it funny you say Kid even through COR is 30 years old . I know. I know. It's all relative, and anyone younger is a kid. - gerbe42
I thought he was younger than that. I probably should have looked that up to verify before I posted that. It explains why he wasn't on the roster at the beginning of the year with all the injuries. I get trying to see what you have in the younger guys, but at some point, you just have to ask the question about just about anybody you consider: "Is my team better with this player on it?". Since they've signed him, the answer with Cal O'Reilly has been "yes".
Either way, I think he deserves a roster spot over just about anybody they put on the 4th line even when this roster is fully healthy. I would even consider him over Foligno.

Why? I think Foligno has played exactly the way we need him to this year.

I haven't had a problem with his game per se this year either. There's still nothing about his game that tells me we absolutely need him in the lineup. I just don't think I would notice a difference.

Foligno is younger, so if told i had to pick between him and Cal O'Reilly, I'd pick Foligno. I don't have an issue with Cal's game to be honest. I think he's done a good job filling in when needed going back to last year. But Foligno plays a bit more physical.
He's also leading the team in +/- (factoring in just the guys that have played all season), so there's that.

I definitely think he deserves a spot somewhere on the 4th line, especially with these injuries
So on Cal O'Reilly, I think we all can say he should be here. I agree 100%.
I did read from someone (can't remember who) that he NEEDS to be in Rochester to help all the young guys develop "correctly". So I am not sure if that was the persons thought (was it the prospects guy?) or something he heard/knew that Murray wanted.
I understand the need in developing the young guys correctly, but I think you owe it to the player to play in the NHL if he is able to (over other choices of available players). But from what I saw, he should be here until we need the roster space back from injuries and even then, Grant should go down, issue will be waivers. I think they both Grant and Cal need waivers. I would think someone would take Cal if he was on waivers, Grant, not so sure.

I'm over Grant. I'm still trying to figure out why Byslma had him out there during OT. (I know, he actually generated a good scoring chance, but he still shouldn't be out there 3 on 3).

Because coaches are generally the same and overthink themselves.
hard work must = results in their minds.
It's baffling that coaches all around the league still think this way.

I am over Grant too, he had a great preseason, but 17 (or so) games into regular season he just can't finish. Has had tons of opportunity. If he finds it later, great, if it's with another team I will live with losing a 4th liner for nothing.

I had no problem with them rewarding him with some time here based on how he did in the preseason, but at this point, I don't think he's adding any type of value to the team. Like a few others have said, I'd rather have Cal here than him right now.
