Safe to say Canucks should have taking Nylander, larkin or Eilers before they took the entitled Jake Virtanen.

He's already thrown up 14 points (would be leading the Nucks) in 18 games as a 20 year old, albeit mainly on the wing.

In 3/4 years I don't see why not. It's not the 80s anymore, the league has systematically been moving towards a speed and puck possession type game. If you can skate and handle the puck with a high degree of skill, all of which Nylander has already demonstrated in this young season, you can be successful.

There's no hight or weight restriction concerning success, look at the guys leading the league in points right now......................

- Whiskey-Tango

Laine....Mcdavid... yeah fast big guys... that's the future .... I don't see Nylander there as a first liner in this conference ... he's got talent but not enough to be the guy.

That kind of patience for a very young power forward got us the Cam Neely trade ...

(frank)!!!
What a bad pick. Of course the game moves away from these power forward types like Lucic just as we have an early first round pick and a local power forward is available. We are (frank)ing cursed.

I agree they need to be patient with Jake, however, Neely was always a better player than Virtanen. He was just stuck playing behind Tanti and Smyl. Vancouver really needed a first line center when they traded for Pederson, everyone was excited when they got him.

Neely had a 20 goal season as a 20 year old playing bottom six minutes, Jake can barely get an assist!

How drunk was Vintage last night. If Edler puts Hinostroza on his ass that goal does not happen
- Vantel

That would have been an interference penalty.

If you go back and watch it's Stecher who tries to ring the puck off the boards and out, the forward at the line (I forget who that was) doesn't beat his guy, and the puck turns over quickly back into the Canucks zone. Sure, Edler could have interfered with, blocked out, but Stecher coming back is facing the wrong way, and wide of the net. The puck was sitting in the crease not he rebound, right where he should have been.

6 guys on the ice, none of them did their job.

I wasn't excited about it Lefty. Was okay about Pederson that he produced well as a player on a good team. But heck he won't have staying power. I was shocked they gave up on Neely with a team full of midgets.

Also that was the high scoring eighties when 50 goal scorers were common place. Anyway, JV.... he's not the same player... his game is about speed and meshing with the right line mates. He's the king of player that plays better with the right people and not makes others play better around him.

If utilized the right way he would be a great 2LRW. The kind that hits and scores. If Steamer can figure how to show him the way that would be awesome.

That third goal yeah sounds about right ... EDler went for the hip check or hit and missed was off balance too and overly compensated.

But the 2nd goal against he just moved the wrong way outward instead of boxing out when that rookie cut for the net. That's why he was so out of position for that goofy rebound that was tapped in.

Cab, Merlot or Decoy?

ah, Cab.

Shiddy is wrong, they're known for their Merlot, but the Sauv Blanc is good!

2 of the Hawks 3 goals were scored because of a turnover in what Archer would call the "danger zone", that space on either side of the blue line.

Pretty much... cost them the game. That the WD system couldn't prevent that ... what's the point of playing defensively.

WD says he told them to keep the pressure up.... but if their systems play isn't structured that way what the heck are they going to do.

There way to much room to move the puck up in etc. and no structure on how to move the puck quciky to put pressure in their zone.

Overall I've actually been pleased with Edler thus far, but he did NOT have a good game last night. Hopefully he'll rebound nicely. I think his play this year is much improved

right....and thats where a system of rebound control (that Ive been mentioning for 2 years) and D knowing where to expect them needs to be.

D has greatly improved this year with the new staff but I'd like to see this part improve too. Gotta get cloutier and jarvis talking about it and making a plan

and then keep it there with a better forecheck.

btw thats not WDs system, he doesnt use a system. The system belongs to the new assistants the canucks hired.

yes he is. And its been what Ive said all along for years, if you bring in a defensive structure and system of play we'd see a much improved edler. Now we have it and he's greatly improved.

every player has off nights. Just a fact of life....off diet that day, Fighting of a virus or argument with spouse ...all possible reasons for an off day.

I haven't seen the Cougars play Moose Jaw this season so I don't know much about him either.
- thundachunk

If you do get to see him can you give us an opinion on him. I only watched him play twice on TV. Like his drive to the net and work along the boards. Seems like a player we could use.

Former Cougars goalie was playing the best hockey of his life and then his girlfriend broke up with him and his game went for total sh!t he was never the same after that. Let in like 8 goals the first game after his break up. Home issues can really mess with a guy.

One thing they have been doing pretty well at so far this season was clogging up the neutral zone but I noticed in the third period they all fell back in to the d-zone and the Hawks didn't encounter any resistance until at least the center line. The forecheck also collapsed.
