Has anyone else noticed that all of Ghost's partners seem to struggle defensively? This includes solid defensive defensemen like Schultz, Macdonald and MDZ. Why? It is difficult to be so great defensively to make up for a partner who doesn't play defense. These guys are solid NHLers but that is it. Ghost is a talented offensive threat but he isn't so good offensively that I would put up with his defense if I was his coach. Move Ghost to the wing, he could be a Sami Kapanen type of winger who can use as a defensemen in case of injury. Then you can have 3 pairings which all 6 can be trusted throughout the game (rather than not playing if the Flyers have a lead with 5 minutes left in the game) and can kill penalties (two things Ghost never does). |

Probably has something to do with the HRR split in the CBA.
And I agree, but you weren't clear. |

I just skimmed their roster. If they want him as a partner for Weber, then Weber's off the table. Price is the only other player on that team that really popped out at me, although Galchenyuk and Beaulieu are nice. |

It doesn't make sense in that if Gostisbehere is struggling defensivly than why pair him with their top defenseman who plays a heavy minutes and shutdown role. I would think they would be more interested in Trouba or Dougie Hamilton. |

Just one of the reasons why the rumor doesn't make a lot of sense. Young quality defenseman are like gold in the league today. |

They're both right-handed. But yes, in a nutshell, you're right.
He's not going to get traded (e4). |

I could see a guy like Del Zotto if they still need another dman at the TDL. |

So Q1 into the season here are my expansion draft selected protections. I do expect MDZ to win a spot back on the list but he hasn't justified an extension just yet.

I will be disappointed if Manning ends up as the 3rd defenseman protected

You're probably right, Laughton and Leier could force themselves some consideration. Cousins is the best of the 3 right now though. Read had a great start but has begun to fade. Weise will need to have a stellar rest of the season to justify protection. |

Depends on the reason, it could mean MDZ continued to struggle and/or was traded at the TDL. What would you prefer to Manning in that case...a trade? |

I keep coming back to the Weise signing being an expansion maneuver. Big body forward who has played in the West before, very reasonable contract for an expansion team that is going to have a lot of money to throw around. |
