Oh they'll get an asset, by utilizing his cap space! I was just being facetious as I don't think they'd throw Horvat to the wolves like that but it was something I'd think about if our centre depth was better.
If Gillis had of taken Shea Theodore, Benning wouldn't have had to trade for Gud. Theodore is ready to play in the NHL. Then we'd still have McCann.
Man this franchise is a train wreck. - LeftCoaster
I never expected smooth sailing. Like most teams entering this phase, I'd expect a GM to come in, make some good and bad moves, lose his job, the next guy comes in and builds on the positives the last guy left behind and make some of his own.... and get all the credit when we enter a new generation of competativness. I'm not attached to this GM or Coach long term. The process.

Depth? The only depth the Flames have is the load of poop they have in their dressing room.
They've got some great young NHL players, but depth is something they don't have. - LeftCoaster
At the time of the trade they had depth.
Monahan
Bennett
Backlund
Frolik
Hudler
Jones
Stajan
Colbourne
Bouma
Raymond
Ferland
Jooris
Grant
Shore
Poirer
Where does Granlund fit on that list?
Colbourne, Jooris, Jones, Hudler and Frolik aren't world beaters but they are depth.
Grant, Shore and Poirer had similar AHL careers as Granlund at that point as well.
They had depth of bottom 6 tweeners and moved one of them for a boom/bust prospect.

And yet discounting a players overall ability and/or future over the course of those same 13 games is valid? - Whiskey-Tango
It isn't, it just fits the narrative |

He was not impressive in Utica. In fact, less impressive than Granlund in the A - CanuckDon

Big body, he makes people aware he's out there. I hope he get's a fair shot. - VanHockeyGuy
It was pointed out without DD and also JV the Canucks were thumpless. Guess Skilless doesn't fill the need either. |

He's also almost 3 years older..? So in three years any shink/granlund comparison will actually make sense.
A point that should also be made is granlund is what he is coming from the flames orginazation shink might be a bit damaged because of where he came from like a long list of van prospects.
The flames had too much depth or you wouldn't have had him at all - Bigalow

Wow. There goes another UFA off the market. Vegas Knights frown. Leafs and Oilers rebuild hopes off the rails. |

Like I said we didn't follow the draft as much as we do now. 3 years ago we followed it for two weeks. Now we follow the prospects all year round - VANTEL
Years back I was heavily into following prospects. During the couple of years that I was sobering up alone in my cabin, I had (frank) all to do. I use to start the prospect thread in the open forums on this board and update everything I could find on even our most lesser known prospects. I spent a lot of time in there battling the Leafs trolls and very few people from our main Canucks thread would be in there defending our prospects. I was all season long. This is where Prock and I got to know each other well... unfortunately, I could never get rid of annoyance101 and Brother Danial...

So which of the prospects developed into what you hoped? Or is this just a couple years ago (aka too soon to tell) |

Kicks in the same year as Big Joe and Marleau come off the books, though I'd imagine they re-up Thornton short-term at a pretty reasonable price. |

Yes. We are going to need a playoff coach and Cup capable GM. Any time now |

I was wondering if anyone else caught this one after the double post:
Seems we are on the same page on this one. I just told WHiskey that I can understand his shock at trade because of what we were sold about Hunter.

32 almost 33 by the time this kicks in.
Chevaldayoff nailed the contract with Byfuglien. 5 years and a less AAV. |
