Truth be told, it's pretty obvious the only solution Therrien has is to get Plekanec and Pacioretty going.

No one can play that 2nd line centre except Plek, and this team cannot rely on Paul Byron to produce at this pace for the whole year or expect a guy like Lekhonen to score 25 goals once he comes back.

Success will come from Pacioretty or Plekanec producing.

Unless of course a trade happens but I doubt it.

Bergevin needs to upgrade. and yes trades are hard and Connor McDavid or Sidney Crosby aren't available but upgrading on our current center situation really should not be difficult.

ok "easy" is the wrong word but it's doable. now that said, i think the need/desperation to upgrade has only now become apparent. we're 20 games into the season now and Plekanec is on pace for 20 points. and this is not new. this is a continuation from his play over the last 3-4 months last year.
i don't think that was quite expected... like i said, i don't see anything indicating that Plekanec is bouncing back. i think a 40-point player right now would be an upgrade over him/DD/Mitchell.

LA will have to move out some money before the off season, with very little in terms of expiring contracts they'll just walk away from, no cap room whatsoever and with Toffolli, Pearson and King all up for new deals... something will have to give, he wouldn't come cheap but LA would have to listened to offer on anybody other than Kopitar, Doughty or Quick
