I think the Hutton deal is ok ...cap hit and term are not outrageous ...just question why when a player is struggling he gets a bridge deal at what is probably considered around his ceiling as far as bridge deals go ....maybe signing this will allow him to not be concerned with the contract anymore and play better - Redmile247
It also makes him a good trade option.

He has had some brain farts (to which people crucify Sbisa for every single time that happens), but what I find curious this year is I dont see much growth/improvement from him in any area of his game. Hutton has had some flashes of good offensive plays, but production has stalled and he still gets beat defensively. Its a reasonable contract because he's only had 95 games to show what hes capable of, plenty of chance to improve. If he was playing this way after 150-180 games, I would say the contract value is more concerning - WhiteLie
I think given the cost of top 4 d men in the league, this bridge deal MIGHT be on the tad high side, but at the same time no one expected there to be no growing pains with Hutton.

Like Redmile said. The AHL schedule isn't favorable for goalies who split the workload. I would like to see what Demko can handle, especially while in a good groove and mindset winning 3 in a row. - Codes1087
It's not shocking Demko struggled a bit out of the gate to the AHL. NCAA only play what 25 games and is basically a country club hockey league. Sure they have decen scorers and such but the speed and quality of play is miles aheadof NCAA...so there will be an adjustment period or even an adjustment season. |

It's really Hutton that controls his fate. If he continues to show development then all should be good here but if his defensive liabilities continue and his development stalls well.. |

I am not 100% sure of the NCAA schedule but don't they only play Fri and Sat/Sundays?
I am not surprised by the slow start as well. More games is better IMO for demko |

I agree about the top 4 part, he is excellent value if he can be a top 4. Its a probably slight overpayment for now but if he is top 4 this year and the following 2, then its good value
My concern with Hutton is the same I expressed a while back, is that he looks good on the ice. He skates well and looks dangerous handling the puck, but so did Schultz and he proved to be more a bust with a stagnated growth. I think Hutton is better, but its something I am a bit leery on |

I 100% agree. You start to wonder what kind of player Hutton wants to be compared to maybe what kind of play Willy wants him to be. To me he is more offensive than even two-way. While he can obviously make good defensive plays, you can tell he wants to jump up in the play and produce. |

Is it just me, or does the Sportsnet postgame production seem to be lacking a bit in terms of coverage of the game that was just played?
As much as I like hearing about how amazing the Raptors are, speculation about what the Blue Jays might do in free agency, and what Roger Millions thinks about Connor McDavid and the Oilers, it might be nice to get some commentary on the performance of the two teams. You know, other than Carly Agro reading a couple of zippy sports cliches off a teleprompter. |

just speculation (but that's the point of this site) but i think jb gives him the "higher end" of a bridge deal when he's struggling to avoid a protracted contract negotiation.
his play hasn't been spectacular so i would be inclined to believe that he and his agent would be more amenable to signing a short term bridge deal. if the negotiations go longer, perhaps he turns the season around and wants a longer deal. both sides dig in and neither side will "win." the team doesn't have extreme depth at any position in this stage of the rebuild so it's best to get younger players done contract wise without too much conflict.
further, while this might be on the high end of the bridge contract spectrum, we're only dealing with a few hundred k at most. a great deal (team wise) would have been around $2m. $800k for a rebuilding team to "overpay" (and that is a pretty extreme view for this contract) is reasonable.
as for his play: 2nd year player. he's been put into extremely difficult situations. he'll learn through his mistakes and as the team gets better, his play will look better. |

Really pleased on the Hutton bridge deal. He has struggled a bit in this sophomore year as most players do, but huge upside for this kid. Liking our depth on D.
And we are finally getting some secondary scoring. Love what Burrows brought to the Horvat line |

they bid too much for the nhl contract and have had to cut huge dollars production wise. |

Yes you got it. There was more post game coverage of the Oil and Lucic interview then the Canucks. But then again the Oil took over 1st in the division and the Canucks just beat the last place team in the league. No news there... lol. |
