Im wondering, in the expansion draft it may be possible that vegas does not meet the cap floor. Theyd have to sign a UFA to stupid $ just to make it.
Anyone know the rules etc on this? do you punish a team that hasnt even played a single game and is built solely on other teams garbage? |

They will have to be cap compliant by season opener like every other team. Miller hoping for another big pay day lol. |

Believe so. The NHL just will be more strict over collusion and side deals. |

Seems to me that if WD doesn't win tonight and decisively, he'll be gone by tomorrow. a 2-1 road trip of all winnable games might be acceptable to FA/TL/JB but 1-2 isn't going to cut it, at least to my eye. The thing is, if they fire WD or make some sort of trade to get a second line winger then it's clear they still want to go for the playoffs.
This is the point in the season where the team has to decide where it's at and if it can get to where it wants to go. The team will have several days off after tonight's game and then a short homestand before heading off on another long road trip of teams that are mostly over .500. Since we're now at the quarter mark of the season, it's time for the Canucks braintrust to make a realistic assessment of the season and how best to proceed.
Most of us here expect at best a mediocre finish of being middle of the pack and just out of the playoffs and at worst bottom of the league. I think that's probably realistic at this point, I think some of our players who are having bad starts will get better and we will start to get more wins, but it's not going to be enough to get us much higher in the standings then we are now.
I'd personally like to see a housecleaning at this point and remove Linden, demote Benning to AGM or else deal only with scouting and drafting and have the entire management and coaching staffs be let go. It's time to stop chasing the game and trying to emulate what's worked and try to find a new way. Gillis tried, but he wasn't a GM, but he did have some ideas that worked and others that were New Age and hokey at best. We need someone who has a vision and a clear plan to make that vision a reality. And that vision should be to get the team back to respectability FIRST. Worry about going after the playoffs and then contending for the Cup 7-10 years from now. We'll need that amount of time to move on from the Sedins, get out from Luongo's anchor of a contract and recapture when he retires early and get a new core in place.
tl;dr We need to gut the hockey ops department and start over fresh with a new vision and plan to make that vision a reality. |

I woke up this morning and still really don't like Edler . I dread the thought of him being top guy for three more years.
If I had a choice to trade him or Tanev I would probably decide to keep Tanev longer.
I see the big the big minutes Edler plays and I see that he is 80 % mistake free, but his gaffs really piss me off.
He brings nothing offensively just like Tanev, he is older and more expensive. He could bring a better return.
If he wouldn't waive for a trade I would be really tempted to expose him. Yes I know how stupid it sounds to let him walk for free. It is the get out of jail card for free. If he refuses to waive for a trade we are stuck with his mistakes for two and a half more years. |

Does Ownership want another lame duck contract to pay out if the team is doing down anyways?

I banged that drum all last year...everyone scoffed, how can you replace him. I said it mattered not, picks prospects middle nhlrs . Addition by subtraction. New blood new style of play. We've had three young d men come in to the lineup from last year...all of them I'd argue are a cheaper more productive upgrade to Edler. He is the piece on the backend that needs to be moved when Tanev returns, sending Stecher away would be a poison pill for this fan base and could just be the straw that breaks our fan bases support |

Hamhuis also got beaten regularly last year and was slowing down. Last night Menga showed us why we said no. |

Back then he was and still is the best defensive Dman. The gap is closing on the rest of the guys catching up. You were too early. We also weren't sure how bad our team was, now we know. |

This team would be much more worse off without Edler. He is still better then everyone else on the left side. The team isn't tanking. When trade deadline comes around and the canucks are out of the picture, i'm sure JB will be entertaining calls on him. |

I actually read that
At this point I see no reason to make any changes, despite my dislike of WD, because, they're heading towards a lottery pick which will help the team's future. If they're going to make changes I can see it this summer.
Truthfully Linden & Benning have only had two years thus far to fix what they walked into, which was a big mess. I'm not a Benning fan either, but, I think he deserves more time to build from the draft. I just wish they'd accept that and STOP with anymore system bypasses or UFA's. |

Oh for sure. I didn't want Dan back. Just hoping that before Edler falls off too much like Dan and becomes worth nothing they can trade Edler. |
