He's not going to the media, as a pro player it's part of his responsibility to do interviews. They're going to the team asking if he can be interviewed. He's just a kid giving honest answers because he probably doesn't know a whole bunch about managements plans. He's correct in saying at his point it's just his responsibility to simply play. - LeftCoaster
I think if thats the case, he should simply say he cannot comment as he doesnt know. He did say something to that affect, but with a tone that undermines the competency of the front office. I agree with Codes in that the way JV has made his comments doesnt come across well and I dont accept the youth/inexperience answer as kids start doing interviews in Jr B these days. He is smarter than that IMO |

The Canucks should bury him in Utica for the year and reassess in the summer. No point trading him when his value is so low. Hopefully he learns to be a pro the next few months. the most puzzling thing about Jake's year is he doesn't hit anymore. He added 15 pounds, aged a year and he has completely abandoned all physicality. Is he injured? scared? What is going on with this kid mentally is the real question. - CanuckDon
I don't even know if "Bury" should be the right word as I genuinely think he needs to learn and develop and mature in Utica. Bury just seems to have a negative meaning where as he should be in VAN but is being punished in Utica. I think he genuinely does not deserve to be playing in the NHL based on how he is performing. |

When I said "bury" I just mean long term. Instead of giving Jake the message that he will be back soon they should tell him he is their indefinitely until he has consistency in his game. |

Can Virtanen play in world juniors? It says under 20 and he's 20. Does that mean 20 and under or 19 and under? |

I cant remember exactly, but somewhere around his Team Canada loan, he sent out a social media message kinda trolling people criticizing his performance. That, with these recent interviews, makes me think he needs to grow up a fair amount - WhiteLie
You mean the tweet that he sent out on Jan 4th that said "Proud Canadian"? |

This is a learned behaviour and if the club wants him to be more media savvy, then they should put the time and effort into their youth and train them. He's dealing with seasoned veterans in the media, something he is not.
The NHL is not as corporate as some of you might think, as a general statement. If some of you owned a business I certainly wouldn't want to work for you! The guys a (frank)in kid who needs to learn and he needs guidance.
Don't kid yourselves, the NHL is an old boys club, I've played with a number of guys who made the show, it's certainly not like working for a major corporation where they put the time and effort into forming a long term employee.
I think you guys need to get out of his kitchen and leave the kid alone. |

WD starts every OT with Sutter-Daniel-Hutton, the twins definitely look better when they have someone speedy with them to take their passes when they get outpaced. - NorthNuck
Van is actually decent in overtime. Once Hansen is back like to see a shuffle. |

He's also been groomed and trained by agents long before he was drafted. I followed Colton Sissons (since his mother and I worked closely together) since he was drafted from bantam and played 3 years in Kelowna, 2 as the Captain, he was interviewed quite frequently and never had an issue with making any sort of comments that could be taken the wrong way.
You can't use the excuse that he needs to learn and get guidance, he's not 18, he's 20 and should be fully capable of giving an interview saying nothing. The fact of the matter is, the NHL can't afford loose cannons running their mouths, he needs to shut up, get over himself and (frank)ing play hockey or find another career.

(frank) it's embarrassing hey, this is exactly what you wouldn't see in the corporate world. I've even had media training from Shell Canada because I may of, at the time, had to answer government and media questions on a flaring event that happened. |

"Loose cannons" lol....it's not a linear ability for all individuals. He needs guidance or direction from the Canucks or you'll see the same behaviour over and over again. |

I have no issue with anything Jake has said. I have an issue with his soft and disinterested play. |
