they don''t make it without him period. nobody remembers that when he came off the bench against boston it was literally his first game dressing with the team in about 2 months after suffering a high ankle sprain. he was really on a roll late in the season, too. they're facing elimination and he comes in mid game with the season on the line. no big deal.
but, but, but THAT LAST GOAL! THEY LOST THE CUP BECAUSE OF HIM. HE SUCKS. AAAAAAAAH!
what about powe turning the puck over on a failed clear. or timone getting beaten badly to the outside by kane? none of those mistakes matter. - hammarby31

Stolarz is the one that worries me. They have to expose one goalie signed past this season. Right now, they don't have anyone who fits that bill. If they sign and expose Mason or Neuvirth, they'll get claimed. Do they sign a guy like Emery for the league minimum for a year, expose him, and then have him retire after the expansion draft? - jmatchett383
i'm glad I'm not hextall. i think he'll find a way to do what he wants. |

I agree. And yes, I do remember that game with the combined shutout was his first game since late March (Minnesota, I think?). And he was a huge reason they got there, maybe the biggest reason. And there were other players who made bad plays on that sequence. But still, letting in a goal from that angle at that time in my direct line of sight...it's an image that is burned into my memory. - jmatchett383
it sucks. but i'm still grateful for his body of work that allowed for that crushing horrible moment to be burned into our collective souls for eternity. |

The whole Boston series was probably the craziest and most stressful hockey I ever watched especially after they made it to game 7. When Leighton was thrown into that game, I was sure that we were done because he hadn't played in so long. He played amazingly up until the final really. - Hextall271
the whole team was off against chicago..because of how good they were. and yet...an OT goal away from a game 7. or, in a perfect world, a jeff carter goal in regulation away from a game 7. |

As am I. He was the backstop for (well, half of) the best Flyers' playoff run of my adult life.
Still, being in that building, with seats on the goal line, standing, watching that happen...it's soul-crushing man. |

Heck, they're a goal away from OT in games 1 and 2. They score 3 more goals and they have a Stanley Cup. |

The game 3 win was the first SCF win for the Flyers since 1987 game 6. And G's goal in OT was the first winning goal since JJ Daignealt's in game 6. |

That was a difficult play, even for a top goaltender. Sometimes the location and angle of the shot, is going to make a rebound almost impossible to prevent. I think that was one of those occasions. - MJL
I do not think the rebound was impossible to prevent. I think with time he will prevent those with more regularity |

It just kinda sucks...in 1985, 2987, and 2010, they were up against dynasties (granted, it was Chicago's first of 3). That team was just super stacked, and Edmonton may have been the best NHL team ever assembled.
Also, think about this 5-year run:
2008 - lost to team that made it to SCF
2009: lost to team that won SC
2010: lost to team that won SC
2011: lost to team that won SC
2012: lost to team that made it to SCF

I'm sure that those players are also capable of doing this. Willing is a different matter, but not ability. - jmatchett383
Maybe, but that's not the only factor. I don't think how the puck when in the net, diminishes the play. A goal is a goal. |

normally i'd be up for that. but 2 recent experiences with wings and a breakfast sandwich with green chile (i was back in ABQ for TG) seriously disagreed with me. i think i need to forgo the hot stuff at this point. sucks. just like steve mason. and leighton. |
