Staal is 2nd on the team in short handed icetime, so I would doubt this scenario
http://www.nhl.com/stats/...yed,gte,&sort=shTimeOnIce - jimbro83
In my scenario, we obviously dress 7 D and 11 F. That way, Marc Staal, god of short handedness, can continue to play when we are short handed. He is so elite when we are short handed. |

So is this Staal guy any good when the opposing team is on the powerplay? I've heard quiet whispering that he has short hands and stuff. |

Are Dundee's posts supposed to be read like they are really bad spoken word poetry or something?
If I get myself a set of bongos and do a few taps after each line, wear a fedora and rose colored glasses... they might make sense. Anyone else test this out? |

Dude, Marc Staal is 2nd on the team in SH ice time. Even if the Rangers acquired Shea Weber, Marc Staal would not lose his roster spot due to his elite SH ice time. |

I feel like you could mention his short handed prowess a bit more... He sounds a tad underwhelming |

sarcasm aside, one of the biggest improvements from last season is the penalty kill
The Rangers aren't going to start healthy scratching their highest paid defenseman considering how effective it's been no matter who they acquire |

20 years from now, there will be the Marc Staal Trophy, which will be awarded to the best defenseman to be 2nd on a team in SH ice time each year. |

Nah yea I'm just messing around. The PK is a lot better and Staal is a key reason for it.
I think the Rangers could fix their RHD issue by simply moving Skjei to McDonagh's pairing. But as others have stated, all of a sudden out 2nd and 3rd defensive pairings are thin and don't have that smooth skating two-way defenseman 1-2 punch that McD and Skjei separated have.
But if we can acquire a solid top 4 guy like Kulikov who can fill in for Skjei's vacancy on the 2nd d pairing on the left side, it would allow us to move Skjei up there. |

vs Ottawa, McDonagh had 19 minutes of 5 on 5 time, Girardi had 15 minutes
so obviously they aren't always together |

Yup. I don't think G is a number 1 anymore, but he hasn't been bad at all with limited time.
Klein and someone else has been worse 5 on 5 |

Are Skjei's minutes close to McDonaghs? If not, he can probably balance that out a little bit more. Skjei has been good. He's young he could play the extra minutes. |

The guy who should be bought out at the end of the year shouldnt be on the top pairing. I agree he hasnt been as bad as last year but thats not a good defense for him staying there |

i think they should ride Mcdonagh as much as they can. All the big time dmen play huge mins and get better with more mins. |

So who should play the 1st pairing? Klein? he has been worse. Holden? While I like Holden he is about the same as Girardi with a bit more physicality. |

Skjei, Load up that top pair and ride them till you can bring in another Dman to balance things out better. |

Meh, Skjei looks average on his off side. Looks fantastic on the left. I really think the only right answer is to wait for Shattenkirk as a UFA or trade(which no one wants). Think people have to accept the D as is, with Clendening filling in once in a blue moon. |
