I'm totally ok with a tie to end a regular season game. In a perfect world, teams would play until there was a winner. We don't live in that world. The NHL can't afford to have a 5 OT game when a team is in the middle of playing 6 games in 9 nights.
Someone who is better at math than me (pretty much everyone) would have to tell me what the actual impact of having 3 point games is... but it seems like its so hard to catch up in the standings when you have fallen behind, when on any given night, two teams you are trying to catch have a game that goes to overtime and you just know one of them is getting two points and the other is getting the loser's point. - Doc_Sarcasm
I fancy myself pretty good at math and I've found it makes much more sense to have every game be a 3 point game (if they want to keep the shootout). The way it is currently constructed, teams are rewarded for conservatism. A team that wins a skills competition should not receive the same amount of points as a team that wins in regulation. I'm not just pulling this out of my ass. 538 did a study and it found that the last 10 minutes of a tied hockey game are some of the most boring minutes played. |

the truth is that it rarely has much of an impact. it just makes the standings look closer than they really are.
here is one article that comments on it....of course the dynamic of the game would change if they changed the way points were won, but just using standings it is easy to see how little changes

Agreed.
And agreed on both of those, but I'll add that DSOTM should always and only be listened to in it's entirety.
For no-filler albums, I'll add Genesis Duke - Scoob
Just got the SACD multichannel mix of DSOTM..
I had heard the quad mix of it from the Immersion set previously and thought that was amazing.
Hearing it in 5.1 is heaven.

I don't mind it, at home, celebrating a goal with my kids, because it's silly fun. Out in public with 19,000 wanna-be comedians/cool kids? No thanks. - Flyskippy
I'd be fine after a goal with it.
During a normal time while play is going on. F that. |

this is really makes me want 3 point games. I am not sure what the counter argument even is anymore. It would be great to reward a team for trying to win in regulation |

it is annoying that it happens so often...I agree, after Konecny scores it would be more fitting. It seems as though they were tyring to assemble so everyone wooos when he touches the puck....if thats the case it will be a long season |

I've been on that bandwagon since the season after the shootout was added. I mean teams sit back for overtime then sit back for a shootout against teams that are poor in the shoot out. YAY let's just waste 10 minutes of game play. |

Okay so enough about poop music.
8 of us are going to Nashville tomorrow and coming back Monday. Of course I got tickets for the game on Sunday. Anyone ever been to the Bridgestone before? How is it? - jak521
I went to a Preds Oilers game there last fall, and I really liked it. Smaller than Wells Fargo, but I was pretty high up at one of the ends and it was still a fine seat (minus a guy 2 rows in front of me in a Forsberg jersey jumping out of his seat during every preds scoring chance). Didn't seem like there'd be any bad seats in there. The concourse is much better than Wells Fargo in my opinion. Lots of glass to the outside so even if its not bigger than the wells fargo concourse, it felt much more open and spacious.
All of the people sitting around me were nice and actually seemed like knowledgeable hockey fans too, which I didn't necessarily expect.
Lastly, I'm not overly patriotic in any way, but for the national anthem at the game I was at there was no singer. They just played it on an organ and the crowd sang with it. It was pretty cool I gotta say. |

Changing the point awards to 2 points for regulation win, 1 point for overtime win, and 0 points for any loss would take care of the "play cautious for the loser point" problem that's plagued 3rd periods since they allowed 1-point OT losses since even before the shootout was implemented. |

I can't even blame the coaches either. The system is built to incentivize it. To be honest, I'd be comfortable taking it a step further and saying 3 points for regulation win, 1 point for OT/SO win and 0 points for any loss. Now there is no incentive for playing it conservative. |

Sweet! Thanks for responding. Im pumped. The whole trip should be a blast, and now its supposed to rain all day Sunday so were just gonna head to a bar before the game and then run over.. We are sitting 5 rows from the ice where the Flyers shoot twice. Hopefully we catch a good game.

Nice, you'll see that the street Broadway that Bridgestone is on is the main strip with a ton of bars, most of which will have live music. It's mostly cover bands in the Broadway bars, but they will almost definitely be good musicians at least.

Well, on Appetite, "Anything Goes" is nothing special and on Dark Side, the "On the Run" is really just some synth filler in between "Breathe" and "Time"
It's really hard to come up with any album where every single track is great. The closest 2 for me would be either Rush-Moving Pictures or The Who-Who's Next.
Also, I might have to adjust my top 10 band list to find room for the Kinks, I love Ray Davies song writing. - BiggE
Not really in the classic mold here but Room on Fire by The Strokes, and Everything Went Numb by Streetlight Manifesto are 2 albums that every song is great in my book. |

The situation begged for a timeout to be called after the Bruins tied the game. Coaching 101. - PLindbergh31
i would have considered it after the first goal because the bruins were all over them from the drop of the puck at the start of the 3rd until the goal. just settle things down, and refocus.
but i'm not a coach. |

We were spoiled by Laviolette's judicious use of the timeout and switch flipping.
