I threw this out there about Couturier on the PP and I believe someone got touchy about it, making the point that it's easier for poor Coots to pass on the left side.
If people are disappointed with Schenn, I cannot convince them otherwise. I'm a firm believer in the kid. We all know he's inconsistent. We all know he doesn't have a great two way game playing in the middle. With all of this in mind bouncing him from center to wing, from line mates to line mates isn't gonna help him either. What I'll continue to point out is Schenn is a way better point collector than Simmonds was three years ago at age 25. Schenn is never gonna be on the same level as Simmonds from a physical standpoint and it's unreasonable to expect it. So if Schenn's point totals keep getting better every season and Simmonds looks like he's capable of a Breakout all-star season for the first time in his career at age 28, why can't Schenn continue to get better at 25 moving along? - SuperSchennBros
When and if everyone gets healthy, I'd like to see them try:
Raffl-G-Simmonds
TK-Coots-Jake
Lyubimov-Schenn-Read
PEB-Cousins-Weise
spares: VDV & Gordon
sent to LHV: Laughton
Provorov-Gudas
MDZ-Streit
Manning-Ghost
spare: AMac
waived or traded: Schultz
PP1
The usual suspects
PP2
Konecny in Giroux's spot
Provorov in Jake's spot
Couturier in Schenn's spot
Streit in Ghost's spot
Simmonds to doubleshift and he can be replaced late if necessary by either Weise or Raffl
on the PK, Lyubimov can replace VDV and Read and Coots can get a little more time to give Simmonds a break.

1. Abbey Road: the swan song. The End is masterpiece.
2. Sgt Pepper: changed everything
3. Let It Be: Me and Dad do a rousing rendition of Two of Us, and our band plays a number of tunes off this album. My license plate is 909 one.
4. Beatles For Sale: Words of Love is a top 3 Beatles song for me
5. Rubber Soul: In My Life, Norwegian Wood, Nowhere Man...the beginning of the "new sound"
6. Help!: George doesn't get enough credit outside of Something. I Need You and You Like Me Too Much are terrific.
7. Revolver: And Your Bird Can Sing is, without a doubt, my favorite Beatles song
8. The White Album: Everything from Helter Skelter to Mother Nature's Son to Long Long Long to Yer Blues. Lot of classics and variety on this double.
9. Please Please Me: what can be a better start to a career than "one two three FOUR...!" Absolutely love the marathon recording session story, culminating with Twist and Shout
10. Hard Day's Night: If I Fell, I'll Be Back, Tell Me Why...all great and somewhat obscure
11: Magical Mystery Tour: let's all get up and dance to a song that was a hit before BiggE was born. Though he was born a long long time ago...BiggE should know
12: Yellow Sub: this (half) album is (frank)ing awesome. Hey Bulldog, and George delivering 2 more (frank)ing great songs with It's All Too Much and Only a Northern Song.
13: With the Beatles: featuring GiG's first favorite song ever, Please Mister Postman
In reality, the rankings go
Abbey Road, Sgt Pepper
Beatles For Sale, Let It Be, Rubber Soul
Everything else - Giroux_Is_God

my favorite song changes...right now it is actually "And I Love Her" My wife works nights so I put my son to bed a lot. I play The Beatles for him, but there's a lullaby version of that song that is really awesome on the piano. Now when I listen to the song, both versions kind of mix...and I believe he wrote that song for his mom so it has value there. |

That's a beautiful song. My trio covers "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and we plan on adding "In My Life" and perhaps a couple more soon!

You guys should bring out a string quartet and play Eleanor Rigby just for poops lol
It would probably get certain people to drink more. That spent a lot of time as my favorite song as well. Not to sound lame because of how popular it is...I just think it is awesome and I perceive it as a pretty important piece of theirs |

New question before Bill gives us some fresh reading material...
You get to pick one "active" artist to play guitar (mic and guitar) in the corner of a dive bar on a Thursday night for hours...who do you pick?
I will say for me, at least at this moment, it would be (okay top 3 cause I'm indecisive) Gary Clark Jr, Ed Sheeran, or John Mayer |

I know what he paced for, I've long been a Couturier advocate. I mean his raw scoring totals (35 points) were fine for his role
I'm just saying it'd be great if Schenn could find a niche and perform for the Flyers at a high level. - Jsaquella
I agree. If Schenn racks up a lot of 5 on 5 points at 2C with TK and Simmonds/Jake, and plays decently defensively, then he can stay there even when Couturier comes back. |

All kidding aside, playing with a string quartet would be pretty cool!
Eleanor Rigby is simply haunting, both musically and lyrically. We try to do a nice mix of originals and covers by a lot of different band, and we tailor our sets to what the venue prefers. Some of the other songs we cover are:
White Rabbit
Gold Dust Woman
Creep
Layla
The Weight
Hotel California
Zombie
Who Will Save Your Soul
Tuesday's Gone
If anyone in the Philly area is interested, we are playing Malelani Cafe, 6734 Germantown Ave in the Mt. Airy part of town, this Saturday from 7-10pm. Come on out!

Clapton for sure, because seeing him in a tiny venue like that would be amazing.
Also would love to see Mark Knopfler, Jeff Lynne and/or John Mayer. All would be fantastic!

I absolutely feverishly believe in Coots. He had some weird defensive turnovers, which aren't anything worrisome long-term, and I think he deferred too much the last couple weeks, but he was still doing good things and so was the line as the de facto line 1. His scoring would've come sooner or later.
More worrisome is the PP2, and his lack of production from there, and I'm not even sure it's his fault. How can a unit with Konecny, Provorov, Streit, Couturier look so meh? I know the Flyers PP1 is killing it, but they have some of if not the most elite PP players at their positions on that unit. A chimp could coach that unit to success. And that second unit is ass backwards by Mullen. Couturier is on the left point instead of in front of the net, Konecny never touches the puck and is reduced to screening, they have zero set plays besides Provorov/Streit 1-timer or Couturier circle back shot. With personnel that good, it's downright simplistic and robotic. Mullen doesn't do anything at all for the PP2, not that he really does anything for the PP1 either, just letting them do what they've always done. - Mononoke
First of all, I still believe in Couturier also. He's had too much of a track record of being a good player, to think that his early season struggles will continue. He certainly deserves some benefit of the doubt, but why are there always BS excuses made for his play by some? His defensive turnovers weren't weird, they were just bad plays, and bad decisions. No different from any other player. On PP production, again it's not his fault. Yes it is his fault. He simply hasn't made many plays on the PP in his entire career. We also can't call a strategy implemented by a coach as being ass backwards just because someone doesn't agree with it. Responsibility needs to be placed on the players sometimes. So easy to sit back and Monday morning quarterbacking when something isn't working. Joe Mullen is a HOF player, and knows what he doing. I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest changes, but to suggest that the coach doesn't know what he's doing and to not credit him at all for the success of the top unit because a chimp could coach it, is completely unreasonable.
Bottom line, is Couturier needs to play better and raise his game when he comes back, and there are no excuses that need to be made.

I definitely agree with that...I just dont see it happening TBH. From what I have seen so far that line has tire fire potential defensively. I would be okay with splitting that line up across 2 with coots back

It almost became a reality for me a few years ago when we were in London. We went to the famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz club for their Thursday night blues night. There was an amazing band from Georgia playing that night and remarked to the bartender how awesome they were and how the lead guitarist reminded me a bit of Clapton.
He laughed and said you should have been here 2 weeks ago, Clapton sat in with the band that night! Apparently his place in London is just a couple of blocks from the club and he pops in now and then. Talk about picking the wrong week to go to London!!! |

Clapton can do some great acoustic stuff, as well as great Blues, which is perfect for a corner bar. |
