Saw we were 3pts higher than last season at this point last season. So it's a plus.

he's not been on the ice for a goal against since November 12 at new jersey, a span of seven games...he's playing a fourth-line defensive role...

I have read this multiple times the past year and I think it is very much overstated.

A. How much do you think Eichel is going to get? $7M? $8M?
B. More importantly, how much do you think Reinhart is going to get?

Yes, in an ideal world they would be great right now and a cup contender while getting those two on their ELC deals much like Seattle won a Super Bowl with Wilson on his rookie deal, but that is perfect world thinking.

As you said, trimming the fat/dead weight would open up plenty of room to sign both Eichel and Reinhart to their next deals ($10M total?) and allow room to bring in another impact player.

It's actually how most rebuilding teams win cups. Pittsburgh and Chicago won initially when they had there core on cheap ELC's or just coming off ELC's, and were able to load up with depth.

We don't have prospects that are just going to step into Gorges, Franson, Kulikov's place. A lot of that dead weight cap will already be accounted for with having to fill the roster.

We also have very expensive pieces already in ROR, Okposo, Risto, and an unsigned Lehner to add to the mix

Next year is absolutely our best chance at a cup. Anything beyond that will take a combination of luck, good drafting, and health to get there.
