I'm just speculating but I bet they are willing to part with a young player like Nylander and a high 1st for JT this summer. Not sure the Islanders would...

I sure hope not.. if they're going to move assets like that It has to be for D.. it's a (frank)ing mess

Which was a good trade. They traded one of their 3 first rounders and one of their two second's this year for a young goalie who has been starting and looking good for a while. I still think that was a good trade, 26 is young for a goalie and a .912 save % on a poor defensive team is pretty good. i'd take Andersen over either of our goalies.

They only had 2 first rounders.

It's really shocking to me that people keep saying "We are doing it wrong" and "We need to tear it all down and rebuild". After this year, Miller and Burrows are guaranteed gone. We could also see Hansen traded at the deadline. That leaves the Sedins, who we know are untradeable, and Edler, who if we are lucky could also be traded.

I don't understand how people could say we "need a rebuild" and "need to play youth" "like the Leafs are doing" when nearly all of the old core is already gone or halfway out the door and pretty quick here we'll only have kids left to play anyways.

JB has drafted as well as he can and he's working on acquiring/drafting/developing the pieces we need to build a new core. Vantel was pointing this out to everyone over most of the summer, seems like watching a little bad hockey has made people forget.

There's a lot of good inferences made in the article, which is why I pointed it out. I didn't share it for people who know everything about rebuilding, rather people who are undecided whether Canucks tanking/trading players.

No one is crowning anyone, the article is saying "look what three top 5 picks looks like" and saying "maybe try that, Vancouver". they are better and on the right track. I hate Toronto, but it's true of both them and Edmonton, Buffalo, Winnipeg... pretty much every team that was on the bottom last year. Does it work for every team? No, of course not. But it worked for Chicago and Pittsburgh. really looks like its working for Edmonton.

Last three first rounders for Vancouver:

Lost lotto get JV 6th overall pretty close and Mcann pick from trade we turned into young D Guddy.

Next get BB who projects as a top 5.

Next get 3rd finish lost lotto 3 times picked 5th OJ.

So powerforward takes longer to develop JV isn't making an impact yet. High hopes for unavailable yet OJ and BB. How is this not trying the rebuild?

my bad 31st is a second, they had 30th and 31st picks. traded the 30th... not much difference.

seems more like wishful thinking from someone who’s' rattled by leafs rebuild and is desperately hoping it goes off the rails.

Not sure I understand the concern over Miller starting?

Miller: 13 starts, .907 save % (.901 5on5 save %; .944 powerplay save %) 2.80 GAA
Markstrom: 11 starts, .902 save % (.912 5on5 Save %; .825 powerplay Save %) 2.73 GAA

We knew they would be close to 50/50 split in starts, and their stats arent too different

The leafs loaded up a on picks and prospects (including high-end talent), so when you trade a couple pieces away for an nhl goalie, it doesn’t hurt you.

Benning trades from a sparse collection of picks/prospects to acquire nhl ready players. aka, the nonis way.

When will that NHL goalie arrive

Well, because we still have Edler, didn't trade Vrbata or Hamhuis, still have Burrows/Hansen/Miller. Toronto did a great job of turning expiring players/contracts into picks. I've liked JB's picks, but he should be selling these players for picks and isn't. Last year was a debacle of a pre-season and TDL, not a team trying to rebuild. This year's pre-season was better, but signing LE was a big mistake and we could have tried to deal Hansen draft day.

he's played better than both of ours, behind a worse defensive team.

Anderson has actually been pretty awesome after a brutal start, I didn't mind the trade for him but hated giving him a 5 year deal, still kinda worried about it buts he's been great

Patience for other teams, but if you aren't full blown tanking, there is no patience

My outlook for this season was try to compete for a playoff spot and if we got in, good experience for the young players and if we didn't, I hope we miss big and get a good draft position.

Win win outlook. (even if we just miss the playoffs, JB is pretty good at drafting and at least some contracts are coming off the books.)

As it turns out, we are struggling and constantly hear that we are sucking wrong from much of the media that expected the team to suck. it's pretty fecked up.

I don't watch the Leafs that much . Aside from the last time we played the last game I seen was a 7-3 beat down you guys took by the Bolts .

I just laugh that the Canucks get roasted for trading seconds and not following Toronto and keeping and developing their picks...as the Leafs trade away a 1st for an average GT in a short cut. Good trade, sure.... but only if Toronto makes it according to the narratives in the media. Like I said, one trade for a high end player and the Leafs plan has to be rebranded. By then, maybe we drop a couple of vets and people are saying the Leafs should be using our model. It's all pretty fluid and can change in the course of one year.

Nonis didn’t trade 1sts away.

It was a slow bleed out of picks and prospects with nonis that leaves you with next to nothing … benning is on the same track.
