yes, but they didn't play for the canucks. I'm thinking what player (that was ranked out of the top 5) was developed in a canuck system that went on to become a "star" or as close to it in the league. Is Kesler that player?
Edit: Bieksa might be the next closest but he ain't no star. - bloatedmosquito

I think Bo could be a captain one day ...but he is 21 ...let him worry about other things for now - Redmile247
You're around enough to know that we are always in a hurry around here.
Personally, I think that Horvat is too old. We should consider giving the C to Boeser next season. |

Off the top of my head, Kesler and Burrows probably - DariusKnight
Slim pickings for sure.
So I think the canucks have a better chance of landing that impact player by getting a very high draft pick.
As mentioned earlier, if a Kopitar type centre is available at the top of this year's draft then I would love to get him because that would make for a great 1-2 punch at centre for years to come. Then the GM can start focusing on correcting the other 246 problems with this team. |

Kesler is a real problem child for me. Sure, if he stayed, I would probably have an easier time defending him but after his Selke year, he became a comical, cronic diver and general pain in the butt.
Other than that "Nashville Series", I think he has been ahead of the curve but not someone I could build around. |

That's why I underlined developed.
Linden was a high draft pick so he was projected to be a difference maker. Twins went 2 and 3 and then straight to the NHL from Europe.
I'm thinking of a franchise taking their time to develop someone that might not be as talented. Groom them in the minors and bring them into a situation where they can succeed. - bloatedmosquito
Bieksa did pretty well for us as a developed player. Though Kesler would likely be the best out of all of them. Though wasn't most of his AHL dev because of lock-out? He would have barely spend time there and been in the NHL if not for a lock-out if i remember correctly. |

Bure don't count because of circumstance. If he was truly available in a draft he would have gone top 5 for sure.
Sundstrom was drafted 175th overall but he developed under a european system and then came directly to canucks (like Ohlund and the twins).
Smyl? Canuck hero for sure but a league star? I don't know...
As I've said before, it's slim pickings. |

Datsyuk? Zetterberg? Pretty much any player on the Detroit Red Wings? Maybe even Scheiffle in Winnipeg, he marinated in the AHL for quite a bit. Toffoli in LA maybe? That's off the top of my head. - DariusKnight

I'm just spit-bawlin but he did spend over 100 games with the moose and had the fortune of playing for the same coach in both leagues. That helped him immensely IMO. |

I agree; I wouldn't build around a kesler either. But I think he was a player that was projected to be a serviceable centre that became much more under a good canuck development system. Burrows’ was a product of that same system. Bieksa too. |

Back again?
Remember, you, unlike Canucks Regs in a Leafs room, are always welcome here... but don't you think for a second you will not be constantly called out on your trolling and BS.

You're right. It's just irritating to be having a good convo with folks in here and then have him interject.
In the future I'll just ignore and report if necessary. |

Funny enough, we traded him for Fraser.
I always thought Tanti was undervalued as a real central cog during the years he was here are perhaps should be in the ring of honour.
