My take on the game: Defense looked average at best, unless Risto and McCabe were out there, wow those guys were good. Without them though we had trouble just clearing the zone. Nilsson play admirably. Huge stop on #97 late. Skunk needs to bury that chance, but that line looked much better, maybe because Kane is in beast mode again. Jack looks timid, to be expected I suppose. Once ROR and Okposo start lighting it up again like earlier this season, I like our chances going forward of making the playoffs. We cannot afford any more long term injuries though. Special shout out to Gionta, who I always bag on, he's been looking really good, even though he's a midget. Why is Grant still here? A line of Girgs at center with Moulson and your choice of a Roch guy would be much better. Disco just doesn't trust Girgs to center a fourth line. Eff Disco. he's the biggest problem this team has. |

Good takes.
Defense, did we somehow expect them to be above average with 4 guys out? (not to say those 4 guys are amazing or anything, but missing 4 of your starting 6 would hurt any team's D)
Is seems the majority of goals on us are tips ~5 feet in front of the goalie. I think goalies are doing great this year, but that seems to be the only way teams can score on us.
Kane is not quite beast mode (unless you call cross checking a guy for no reason that lead to a power play goal against and almost lost the game for us beast mode). I do think his days are numbered here, so if he starts to put it together, I think it just raises his value and he is traded. (just my opinion, even though I wanted him on the team when we traded for him)
O'Reilly is a beast out there, they need a pure top line LW to really make that line shine.
Gionta, I can see being offered another 1 year deal (lower cap hit) as he has been a very very solid 3rd line player. Not to mention teaching young guys how to get in dirty areas and how it pays off, even if you are tiny.
Girgensons just seems like he needs to understand the game better. His dump and chase and win battles is old school, but Disco gave him top line minutes yesterday and he does nothing with it. He needs to go to the front of the net hard and right now he is playing perimeter hockey, which is not his game.
Solid takes though. |

I talk about this with my coworkers and I think O'Rielly has to be the captain. As much as Eichel should be the captain one day, he needs to focus on being an elite player, which he can be. O'Reilly stays after practice every day to work on his game and with Eichel / Rienhart to improve theirs. A true leader. My only concern with giving Gionta another year is having to take the C away. But giving him an A for that year should not be an issue. |

My point about the D is that I don't see too much. I get theyre keeping the game super simple, as they should, I'm just not excited about any of those guys (even guile). fedun looks better, more nhl ready. kane scored 2 "kane" goals yesterday. we need him scoring (reinhart too, if he can). I think carrier is good on that line, it will be nice to see going forward if the 15,9,23 line gets the top D from the other team, what 91,21,48 can do. 28 hasn't forgot how to play hockey, he is lost with whatever disco is trying to have him do. I'm not sold on disco whatsoever so I blame him. 28 is a decent bottom 6 guy. figure it out!
Anyways, thanks for the input. nice to discuss some positive stuff on here. winning games is a sweet thing.

After last year, I thought for sure that O'Reilly would get it next. After seeing the way the team has responded just having Jack back in the lineup, I can easily see why they could give it to him.

I think 55 deserves an A with the way he puts it on himself to take on opposing teams best/most pesky players (although I'm sure coaching staff assigns him those players). He has really stepped up this year in that sense, going above an beyond to get that extra jab or really let them know he's there and he's not backing down for the whole 60 mins. 90-C, 15-A, 55-A. 21 is wearing an A right now, right? What happens there? |

As far as the D, there really is only 3 guys we want moving forward, Risto, McCabe, Guhle. The others are stop gaps at best. Now when Bogosian, Kulikov come back that is a slightly different story. As long as we are winning with 3 or so D men that have no future (maybe even this year, future) it is a good thing.
Kane did score some "Kane" goals, I hope his confidence is getting higher cause I do think he has some greatness to his game.
I do like what Carrier brings to the team, but I can't say he is a true top line LW. I think if he keeps playing this way, he will be on this team for the rest of the year. If he scores a couple goals / assists I think that will go a long way with him. Very strong on the puck, happy we got him in Miller trade.
28, yea, I don't know. I want him to be good, it is just not working. I have no issue trading him, if we get good value. My hopes was Girgenson + 2nd round for Fowler (or other top 4 D man). |

Yes I understand giving it to Jack, but I think having him continue to tune his game will be better long term, than focusing on being the leader for the team. If he spends that time working on his game, he will be an elite player and I think we all want that, bad. O'Reilly just seems to say the right things and be there for the young guys, so he makes sense at least for a few season. |

Don't think it really matters. Eventually O'Reilly or Eichel will be the captain. I think everyone respects Gionta and don't see it as an issue until he's not here anymore.
The biggest thing is, the team needs to keep winning games. They really need to get on a winning streak and build some confidence and I don't see any consistency until we get some of our D men back. |

At 5v5, Buffalo is 7th in the league in Goals Allowed. The downside is they're dead last in Goals Scored ( tied with Colorado - and that's a team with some historically good firepower).

As much as we complain about them, not having Bogo and Gorges available to you makes your PK suffer quite a bit.
I can't remember where I read it (might have been a Pach blog last year), but I remember reading something about Bogo having really good PK numbers. |
