My point about the D is that I don't see too much. I get theyre keeping the game super simple, as they should, I'm just not excited about any of those guys (even guile). fedun looks better, more nhl ready. kane scored 2 "kane" goals yesterday. we need him scoring (reinhart too, if he can). I think carrier is good on that line, it will be nice to see going forward if the 15,9,23 line gets the top D from the other team, what 91,21,48 can do. 28 hasn't forgot how to play hockey, he is lost with whatever disco is trying to have him do. I'm not sold on disco whatsoever so I blame him. 28 is a decent bottom 6 guy. figure it out!
Anyways, thanks for the input. nice to discuss some positive stuff on here. winning games is a sweet thing.

I don't agree with you about the defense
Not that I'm saying they've been great or anything...
but we're playing our #7, #9 and #10 defensemen out there!
Idk what you're expecting,
But they've been pretty decent considering

how the hell did the bills lose to the jets

By doing what the Bills do best. Playing down to the level of competition. Or even lower in this case.

As much as we complain about them, not having Bogo and Gorges available to you makes your PK suffer quite a bit.

I can't remember where I read it (might have been a Pach blog last year), but I remember reading something about Bogo having really good PK numbers.

- HonkFortheGoose

I haven't seen any numbers to back up what you're saying...
but it makes sense to me

As decent as Faulk & Fedun have been,
We do need to get our defense healthy again

I like faulk and fedun on the bottom pair

forces the coach to keep their minutes down

fedun gets a little pp time

ship out franson while he is playing ok

all thing considered

the d is over achieving

I think having 3 d men out for a while, puts a much bigger strain than your second center being out a while

I am starting to think, mccabe is that top pair d man to play with risto

at least for the rest of this season

- homiedclown

I agree... I think he really needs to work on hitting the net when he gets the chance and overall puck control-- he seems to mishandle the puck 3-4 times per game at a minimum. Love his physicality and initiative pinching and stepping up though.

U forgot Gorges
Slot him in with Fedun, & I think Faulk is a good #7

But I doubt we can trade a Franson until deadline time
I'm in no rush though.
Like u said, he's playing ok.
And we'll get a decent return at the deadline.
Teams are always desperate to add depth on D at that time

Been saying for years now that I thought McCabe would eventually end up on that top pair with Risto

At that time though, I really thought 3-6 would be solid

Do special teams matter?

Here is the record of the team in all games in which PPGs were scored by either team and those PPGs are subtracted from the final score:

Wins: 7
Losses: 8
Ties: 3

ACTUAL record in those 18 games: 8-7-3 (19 points)

Of the games Buffalo lost the PPG total battles: 4-5-1
Of the games Buffalo won the PPG total battles: 4-1-2

I stopped watching the game last night shortly after this goal (turned it back on for OT), but it bugged me because Rob Ray was saying how bad Carrier messed up on this play. While I don't want to say he has no blame, wtf was Ristolainen doing by joining McCabe on the same side of the ice rather than protecting against exactly what happened on the goal??

I get that there was another guy cutting through, but just think he could have played the middle better, especially since Carrier was more up ice than Lucic was even when they were in the offensive zone (which would be standard since they were on an attack and it transitioned so fast)

This is a good thing. He makes the entire team worse when he is on the ice. Tons of fancy stats to prove it too!

Looks like he thought carrier was closer than he was or that caggiula was the intended target

I wasn't trying to rag on Ristolainen as much as to remove how much blame as they put on Carrier.

Like I said, it's not like Carrier is without blame (he didn't seem to be skating all out to get back), but in the moment the criticism that Ray put basically solely on him annoyed me.

I think Ray's criticism - and I think it's well founded - related to Carrier's actions from 0:03 to 0:05 in the video.

When McD (eff him, btw) carries the puck wide to the boards, with Caggiula as the obvious recipient of an easy pass, Carrier stops plowing and starts coasting. That let's Lucic gain a stride, make himself available for the puck, and bury it.

When McD (again, eff him) spots Lucic and threads the needle, Carrier gets desperate again and reaches out the stick, too late. If he had plowed full time, I think he could have broken up the pass.

I can't blame Risto for making sure the easy pass to Caggiula was defended.

U wanted Risto to leave the guy closer to the net?
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you...
but if he did that then he'd have been wide open on the doorstep to get the pass from either mcdavid or lucic for an easy tap in

Rayzor was right imo
Risto should've stayed with his man & locked him up like he did
And Carrier shouldn't have been gliding
If he'd have kept skating like lucic did, then Carrier would've been in position to either deflect that pass or tie up lucic

Bottom line...
if u have a guy covered, u stay on him
And if you're trying to get back on defense, u don't stop moving your feet
