I honestly think Edler should be traded, Hutton-Tanev Sbisa-Guddy Tryamkin-Stecher would be good pairings, or reverse sbisa with stecher and tryamkin with guddy - phyllee
I think many have come to that conclusion, but easier said than done.

Draft and Develop takes time. Too bad in this world everybody wants everything right now and doesn't know how to wait for it. |

The NTC is the only thing making it hard. 25 teams should want him, only other rebuilding teams wouldn't. |

Best shutdown pairs in the league can all skate. Wouldn't be bad on the PK maybe, hard to take the front of the net with those two. - neem55
it wasnt my idea. Dont mind it though for short stints or specific assignments if needed. |

Pretty sure I read that Guds and Tree are the worst players on the team in the shot suppression category.
Nope WAs wrong Sutter has the worst minus tree is second and guds is a plus 1 |

You mean Biega plays?
I think that's clear, i was just thinking ahead about what the lineup will be like when Tanev is back ( I assume he is back before Edler) - dbot
Biega sits and Tanev plays. Everything else stays as is. It is Edler coming back we need to worry about. |

right. I think we're saying the same thing here but Tanev plays in top pairing and Biega bottom, so, not a straight swap.
With Edler back, barring any further injuries i suppose Trymakin/Stetcher rotate out, depending on opponent. |

Im just not sure what else they are expected to do. This is likely be 2 years in a row where they finish bottom 5, so two good draft picks, how much further back can you step back from here before trying to get better? I dont think they are bringing in pieces that dont work long term and they havent signed any outrageous contracts (Louie's might bother some, I think he will be fine). Its not perfect, but I just am curious what the calls are for, because managment might say they are competing but the actions say rebuild/tool to me - WhiteLie
Stop signing 31 year old guys to 6 million dollar five year deals, stop trading for a "serviceable" big defenceman like Gudbranson when you could've signed a guy with similar skill-set as a UFA and kept your assets....and still finished near the bottom where they are now.
Everything they've done is water under the bridge, but stop making the same mistakes over and over because you feel you owe the Sedins something or you're chasing the playoffs which is clearly unattainable. They've won FOUR times in regulation this year. |

Are managment currently/ ever looking for a quick fix at the expense of the future? Dorset is probably the only example. Every other trade has been for youth - CanuckDon
Valid point, but, Eriksson is a quick fix IMO. That money could've been used to acquire a contract and gain a draft pick or an asset, or both. That's just the way I'd approach it. |

I don't think either were mistakes myself.
Guds is young himself and a good swap in my mind.
Loui is a vet who will provide scoring and leadership when Sedin's leave. He was signed as a UFA, no assets moved, no problem.
If we continue to sign a quality UFA each year while unloading older/under performing vets, i'm happy.

This is the problem, most people want this, but they're not fully doing this. They're trying to bypass the draft & develop system by using draft picks and or assets to acquire NHL ready players.
They're trying to do both. |

I think your criticisms are fair, but like I said I think there can be arguments made for Eriksson and Gudbranson that they benefit this team longer term too. To me I dont expect the Sedins/Burrows/etc. to be around forever, so Sutter/Louie become your defacto veterans up front. Gudbranson might've been a slight overpayment in trade, but he is only 24 and could improve or at least provide some stability/experience on a very young d-core. In those regards I think they werent "all-in" moves, but ones that were attempts at competitive for the time being.
I think it was Ferraro that said that Linden should have said they were aiming for year 4 of the Sedin contract to make a push for it, as opposed to saying playoffs ever year. I think that would've bought a little more leeway |

Yes, we could use Drouin as a legit future first liner for the Nux and getting rid of Tanev would be a good way to get him... |
