Yes, we could use Drouin as a legit future first liner for the Nux and getting rid of Tanev would be a good way to get him...
- kaptaan

drouin rescinded his trade request though. yzerman said he's not trading him.

i don't think they would do Drouin for Tanev straight up, let alone throw in a 1st rounder young blueliner like Koekkoek.

Valid point, but, Eriksson is a quick fix IMO. That money could've been used to acquire a contract and gain a draft pick or an asset, or both. That's just the way I'd approach it.
- LeftCoaster

Maybe JB has done this... Maybe Eriksson turns into a draft pick when the Sedins retire? You see quick fix, I see multiple uses and options. Eriksson is an asset.

I've been saying all along that the time to go full rebuild is when the Sedin's contract is up or, hopefully, the TDL in their final year... Eriksson's NTC opens up a little post Sedins... it looks like the Canucks are deliberately setting themselves up for more than one option. Maybe the kids we have with the addition of the next two draft positions put us into a situation where we have a excellent young supporting cast and we can decide then?

Do you have a crystal ball or are you just impatient?

I think your criticisms are fair, but like I said I think there can be arguments made for Eriksson and Gudbranson that they benefit this team longer term too. To me I dont expect the Sedins/Burrows/etc. to be around forever, so Sutter/Louie become your defacto veterans up front. Gudbranson might've been a slight overpayment in trade, but he is only 24 and could improve or at least provide some stability/experience on a very young d-core. In those regards I think they werent "all-in" moves, but ones that were attempts at competitive for the time being.

I think it was Ferraro that said that Linden should have said they were aiming for year 4 of the Sedin contract to make a push for it, as opposed to saying playoffs ever year. I think that would've bought a little more leeway

- WhiteLie

The continual mixed messages are frustrating and open them up to fair criticism. Such as the recent, "we may sign Miller next year" message from Linden.

I don't think either were mistakes myself.
Guds is young himself and a good swap in my mind.
Loui is a vet who will provide scoring and leadership when Sedin's leave. He was signed as a UFA, no assets moved, no problem.

If we continue to sign a quality UFA each year while unloading older/under performing vets, i'm happy.

- dbot

Every quality UFA is an asset. The longer you hold onto them, the more hit and miss it becomes trying to get a return on them, but they are still assets none the less.

Jim Benning doesn't lie, he tells it like he thinks it, therefore, his comments yesterday about not trading anyone with a ntc or nmc would suggest he won't ask Eriksson to waive. At least not in the immediate future.

I'm not impatient, I just want to see better decisions from them. They could've signed Luke Schenn and still had Jared McCann in the system all while finishing at the bottom of the league. Those are the decisions that annoy me.

This is not the try league.

Perhaps

Benning needs five years of drafting to judge his plan, I just wish he'd draft more and stop with the competitive push because it's costing picks and assets.

Tanev and 2018 4th to Tampa bay for Drouin and Slater Koekkekkkekekeekokek.
- manvanfan

Would be a good deal after expansion draft. TB looks like they will likely lose a defenseman as they should be able to protect all their best forwards(2 are contract ending and UFA so they can wait to re-sign them)

That would be ok...just coming to grips someone would hire Gillis.

seriously there's no one to back up Markstrom otherwise. Miller as much as I am not crazy about him is still a better option than whats in the system at this stage.
and certainly MAF is more $ too than miller.
We may have to sign miller to a 1 yr, even if its only to expose him in draft which theyd have to which might save us sven

Doesn't matter. He probably has this draft and next draft and then fired would be my guess. MAYBE another draft after that. The next GM prob won't have an issue asking him to waive. They could also just be talking about this year for all we know. If the young guys step up next season and Edler is slowly losign favor, i doubt they keep him around because of his "feelings"

no, no, no tree LEADS the team with plus minus along with sbisa
- SMBDragon

If you're going to look at stats, any good statistician will tell you +/- is pretty much useless. Sbisa and Tree do not have great Corsi, Fenwick not bad. They look like gods next to Hutton though, who conitinues to play top-4 even though he is statistically our worst defenseman defensively. Who are the best? Well I'm not going to go into how better Edler is than all of our other D again, but lets just say our best d-men from statistical standpoint are currently injured.
