Cal Clutterbuck's new five-year deal with the New York Islanders is worth $17.5 million.
That $3.5 million cap hit seems like quite a bit for a 29-year-old forward that typically serves in the third or fourth line and usually records between 10-20 points per season. That being said, Clutterbuck has played beyond that description so far this season, averaging 15:26 minutes per game and recording nine points in 25 games. He's also stayed physical with 89 hits. This still seems like a lot of money to throw at him though, given that he might end up seeing his role decline again (it was just last season he was averaging 11:55 minutes) and he might also regress as the contract goes on.
Is it me or do the Islanders seem lost - SABRES 89
More than lost
They'd got nearly 16 million tied up in their 4th liners (Cizikas, Clutterbuck, Kulemin, Grabovski) |

If I'm Tavares I'm not signing anything with them any time soon. That team is a hot mess.

Then trade him now and start the rebuild. They're barely winning with him, they won't win without him. |

Honestly, yeah. The Islanders are a (frank)ing wreck. There's only a handful of contracts on that team I would take even for free.

Not sure we have the space cap wise for him. I'm sure they could make it work if they really wanted to, but things are getting a little tight around here.
(And yes I know, Gionta, Franson and a few others will fall off after this year). |

Oh I agree. I hope GMTM is good with numbers and has an idea what he is gonna do. Lots of work this July . Lots of contracts need signing or replaced. |

I'd love Tavares but it's ridiculously unlikely. Superstars just don't hit FA. Even if he did, why would he come to Buffalo? |

I'm on that page right now actually lol. They are in a bad spot. I don't know whether they can be salvaged. - chilliard77
Lots coming off the books in 2 years. 40m in cap space . maybe it will work out ? |

In most cases, I would agree. But he does have ties to the area in Okoposo and Moulson. Not to mention an uncle who has been treated very well by the fans in this city. |

Babcock to Buffalo done deal
Stamkos to Buffalo done deal |

If I were Tim Murray I'd be on the phone with Mr. Snow right now making a big Richard offer for Leddy |

I just don't see it. We just saw it with Stamkos. It just doesn't happen. And I know he's friends with both of them, but if I'm him the offer of coming and playing with Matt Moulson and Okposo doesn't entice me much. |

Like I said, I generally agree. While it would be nice to have him, I don't know that it would ever actually happen.
However, you're selling the team short if you think that Okposo and Moulson are all we would have to entice him to come here.
There's a fellow named Jack Eichel on the team, who's pretty damn good. |

It really comes down to winning. If we do some damage next year, it changes. I know Okposo did, but not everyone is going to come here on the "credit" of Jack Eichel. The team needs to back it up.
I think it's best to reconvene this convo next year (I know we all will be lol) after we see the results of this team. |
