Cal Clutterbuck's new five-year deal with the New York Islanders is worth $17.5 million.
That $3.5 million cap hit seems like quite a bit for a 29-year-old forward that typically serves in the third or fourth line and usually records between 10-20 points per season. That being said, Clutterbuck has played beyond that description so far this season, averaging 15:26 minutes per game and recording nine points in 25 games. He's also stayed physical with 89 hits. This still seems like a lot of money to throw at him though, given that he might end up seeing his role decline again (it was just last season he was averaging 11:55 minutes) and he might also regress as the contract goes on.

Then trade him now and start the rebuild. They're barely winning with him, they won't win without him.

Oh I agree. I hope GMTM is good with numbers and has an idea what he is gonna do. Lots of work this July . Lots of contracts need signing or replaced.

I just don't see it. We just saw it with Stamkos. It just doesn't happen. And I know he's friends with both of them, but if I'm him the offer of coming and playing with Matt Moulson and Okposo doesn't entice me much.

It really comes down to winning. If we do some damage next year, it changes. I know Okposo did, but not everyone is going to come here on the "credit" of Jack Eichel. The team needs to back it up.

I think it's best to reconvene this convo next year (I know we all will be lol) after we see the results of this team.
