That's not what we did. Don't such a fool. In fact, that's what we are saying to Leafs fans and media who play it off like they are over the hump on their rebuild and we only a lottery win or a couple of drafts behind them without even tearing it down yet. It's a big fkn joke coming out of Ontario.

Hell with a couple good moves we could be caught up by next season.

Did anyone listen to the Benning interview today? He again stated how important Burrrows is to this team and would not ask him to waive.
When asked if he was going to extend Burrows he said they have not reached that decision yet.
I know Marwood labelled it as window dressing yesterday, which is fine. I do think though Benning honestly believes this .He would not ask someone to waive their NTC that has 1 1/2 months left with the team to pick up an asset. That has to be a little concerning to the fans.
It means one of two things. Burrows is coming back or our GM is a total idiot. He could be lying but he hasn't in the past . Neither of these options gives me a sense of security. - VANTEL
It's not like they are going to get anything for Burrows anyways. Might as well hang on to him if the price is right.
I am not freaking out . If he does in fact follow through with this strategy he will be gone by the draft.
It is more of when you hear your GM say something totally dumb it will get a response. Benning would have been better to say nothing . - VANTEL
We can yell for moves to be made. Pattern shows JB is going to hold the fort. He wants to see what he has with a healthy team and develop the youth. Other then Millier and Burr he has time to decide on other players who play key roles. I guess he sees less value in getting something for them over keeping them for development of team.
I also buy into Mar's point of keeping trade talk off team distraction and devaluation. Plus not get slammed if they fail like with Hammer. But I don't expect him to do TDL deals now. Maybe by the draft. We still have players like BB, JV and OJ to add to core. While looking to draft impact players.

Things are fluid but then can they force the issue? Won't be surprised if Burr stays because no offer was made that JB thought was worth it. He's not going to shop any of them probably because it's a buyers market with Vegas draft.

Yup. There will be all kinds of players up for auction and only a few buyers. Value will be extremely low. Burrows may fetch a 7th, Miller may get a 4th but the contenders do not have much for cap room so I only expect a contract coming back
Since it seems that nobody is getting fired or traded for a while we got months ahead for the draft. But one not so attractive with super star talent. Which will elongate the debate over how to develop. You know the strip down tank versus the other methods.
What if there was a different reward system in the NHL draft? One that didn't encourage teams to play like garbage and put out a non competitive team. Here are some proposals. Feel free to add or make changes or discuss or dissmiss.
1) Lotto on top 5 picks. Equal weight for last 10 spots and half odds for last 11-15 placing. (like 4 balls for last 10 teams and 2 balls for next 5)
2) Reward President trophy winner with back to back 1st round picks.(add extra first rounder that can't be traded to draft position order)
3) Grant two teams with best record not making WC in each conference with back to back 2nd round picks. (move up next 3rd round pick or next available 4-7 team has)
As HB posters is this a movemtent we want to start and petition the NHL as fans for change?
Benning: "We have to work with the guys we have and continue to draft well. Thatcher Demko is playing excellent in Utica. Jake, you know, has a good attitude and is working hard and his game is improving. With the Juolevis and the Boesers, we've got some real good young players. We have to be patient and work with the group we have"
Actually looks pretty good, third times a charm apparently - phyllee
This will be the only one made by Marvel the first 2 were Sony, and Sony was contracted to follow a certain story line. This one wont have a spider bite and Uncle Ben will already be dead. Michael Keaton as the Vulture could be interesting.

The NHL is not going to give extra draft picks to the better teams ...especially not the presidents trophy winner ..they are already rewarded with home ice throughout the playoffs
As for the draft lotto I think every pick in the top ten should be up for grabs ...if a team can drop out of the top ten after finishing last they will not be so eager to tank

I agree with this...
... As soon as the Canucks look like they'll be out of the bottom ten for awhile.

If the Leafs moved down 2 spots in the draft and we moved two up... I wonder if the "doing it wrong" narrative would be still floating out of TO? Without either team doing a single thing different other than selections, the narrative would be completely changed. Toronto media would have to rely on the low character stories about Burrows and Dorsett until something else came along.

They could run a story about FA running a child sex ring out of a pizzeria.
