Even though we disagree and you're always wrong, thank you for the chuckles.

I think I've maybe been wrong like two or three times in my life. I don't think that counts as always. Then again, you've never been good at the math!!
Thanks though, always appreciate your opinion regardless. |

How does a team win 4-1. Then you say it was a fluke? 4-1 fluke? You talk about how bad the Coyotes are then talk about how great Austin and the Leafs are. I know your a stats guy but the leafs suck! No stats can change their record. Coyotes and leafs both suck this year! I mean what the heck are you talking about! |

I'm not really surprised because Toews, like Bergeron, makes everyone better. But they still shelter Kane and pretty much always have. I am sure it also has to do with spreading the wealth, so to speak. So you're not wrong.
But Kane is an atrocious defensive player, and human being. - James_Tanner
Yeah getting in a fight with a cab driver over 10 cents is pretty poopty when you are a millionaire. We can all agree on that. |

I imagine it firstly involves having no morals or principles, then basically annoying people until they hate you. I'm sure there are marketers who are nice guys, as I am sure there is occasionally an exciting accountant or a Liberal cop. - James_Tanner
Marketing is a process that works in a cycle. It starts with determining which products and services are in demand and who is demanding them and what they are willing to pay for the product and service. When Coca-Cola corp buys non soft drink companies it is a move based on marketing research that points to declining demand for poopty soda pops and increased demand for other poopty soda pops.
Advertising and promotion are a tiny portion of the marketing cycle but they are the most visible so people tend to think marketing = advertising. When I entered first year of business school I thought marketing was making TV commercials. I didn't even recognize newspapers or radios. That's how blind I used to be. |

The Leafs are actually pretty good, they have played like three less games then most teams and they blew 5 third period leads (which is about what you'd expect for an 82 game period) so they actually should have a better record then they do.
The Coyotes, on the other hand, have a way better record than they deserve. This is because for the most part, both of their goalies have been awesome.
You think every team that wins 4-1 deserves to win? That's pretty crazy. The Preds took way more shots and their goalie played badly. The Coyotes, even though they were outplayed, they capitalized on Rinne and benefited from another great game by their goalie. |

I'm not a stat guy any more than somebody who looks at wins and losses and goals and assists to make an assessment. I just look at different stats than most people. The stats which people who are way smarter than me have said are best to analyze a hockey game.
I am a fan of information. A stat guy is someone who actually understands all the stats and either tracks them or uses them to make models and charts to explain what they mean.
I steal those guys' work. Or, you could say, more accurately, that I use their work and credit them when due. Guys like Steve Burch, OMGItsDomi, Dominic G, Scott Cullen, DTMAboutHeart etc.

Market segmentation and target marketing have brought us all those amazing beer commercials. Except that one from a decade ago with a million monkeys on typewriters. That was super cool and had nothing to do with sports and hot chicks. Not sure how that one got approved by corporate. Probably a Molson family members idea. |

That's the problem. You think the Preds played better then the Yotes because they had more shots. You didn't watch the game. I'm sure. You see the Preds had more shots and assume they played better. But the shots were from the blue line or the red line at times. The Coyotes played better by far but you wouldn't know would you? It amazes me how you can watch a game where one team wins 4-1. Then say that was a horrible win for them because they were slightly out shot! I also see the Yotes finishing better then Toronto. |

I don't want to argue. You clearly are a huge fan of the team and not interested in critical analysis. That's your right and I respect that, but you don't need to insult my intelligence by pretending you remember where every shot came from or that I didn't see the game or some such crap.
The Coyotes won because of the Goalies. If both teams received equal goaltending, then the Preds would have won. |

The qualities people associate to the definition of a strong center in the NHL will vary. Some will go by points, some will go by faceoff numbers, others by statistics such as Corsi, Fenwick and zone starts. Some will look only partially at stats and consider the general makeup of a player on offense versus defense. If you look a certain numbers or angles only, you’ll get a variety of opinion on who should and should not be considered a good or quality center in or out of the top-six. No need to watch the actual player in question. |

This is actually where the eye-test fails you. Those were two excellent plays. But overall, the Leafs didn't play a good game. Don't get blinded by the memorable plays and forget about the other 56 minutes.
Bozak is a good offensive player, but the Leafs are still building and he's never going to be worth more. They should trade him right now so they can give Nylander his own line and so they can but AM with JVR.
Serious question: is there another team in the NHL that doesn't play their best wing and centre as a combo? - James_Tanner
Pens as well, Kessel has been with Bonino, and just recently back with Malkin, neither of which are Crosby. |
