You're never going to convince me that trading Chris Tanev is a good idea. Yeah, he's sh!t at producing offense, but his shot suppression stats mean he saves an average of 0.3 goals against per game over the last 3 years. To put that into perspective, the next closest defenseman in the league in that stat is at 0.19 (so not even close).
Plus, he's on an incredibly team-friendly deal for 3 years after this. If you want to free up cap space to invest in more scoring, trade Edler, Gudbranson, or Sbisa, but Tanev is the Canucks best defensive dman but a huge margin. - nucks_94

Why gallant? He's almost a clone of WD just a few years younger. His deployment decisions got him fired already because he wouldn't take his mgmt teams advice.
I know he is in the news because of that taxi picture but I'm not sure he's an upgrade. - belcherbd

Gudbrandson Tryamkin Edler and Tanev will produce nothing offensively. I think this is Sbisa's last year so why bother .
I am glad that Tanev is a huge shot blocker but why is the puck always in his end.
You need players to play in the other end . |

Better options than Green. I just don't know who yet. - Retinalz
I like Green...he has demonstrated that he works well with young players and this team is about to get really young. But we won't know who else is available for awhile so hopefully there are some good candidates in the summer. |

Trading Tanev is a good idea because the team should be building towards the future and he's an asset (one of very few) who has value. |

I don't mean he's going to be as good or better then them, just saying that's his style of play. - manvanfan
I think that's worth tanking for. |

It's not...hrs actually one of the best the Canucks have in transitioning the puck out of our zone with possession. He does begin the majority of his shifts in his own zone but that's because he's good at what he does.

Under his own advice, first place in their division. Under management advice losing record. |

Tanev is still young and will be in his prime when we are hopefully ready to compete...Edler should definitely be moved if he waives. |

I mentioned Kevin Dineen for in the summer. He's asst under Quenville in Chicago right now. Has head coaching experience. I think that should be a must if they do decide to change coaches. He is actually the same age as Gerard Gallant (53) |

I like Green as well, but he also has very similar traits as WD. Rolls 4 lines, plays grinders he can trust and his PP is atrocious. I like his approach with youth though which is likely the mist important thing right now. |

Yes, he blocks a lot of shots. But he also drives possession. Let's just look at unblocked shot attempt percentages: When Tanev is on the ice, the Canucks generate unblocked shot attempts at a rate of 53%. The next closest dman on the team is Edler at 50.1%, and then Stecher at 49.6%. Tanev also starts 55% of his shifts in the defensive zone (Stecher, for comparison, is the opposite). Therefore, Tanev not only blocks shots, he retrieves pucks and gets the puck out of the zone at a consistently higher rate that all of the other defensemen on the team. |
