Is Valiardi comparable to when Monahan was drafted? - manvanfan
IDK skill wise. But he is still the 3rd best center from 2013. |

Trading Tanev is a good idea because the team should be building towards the future and he's an asset (one of very few) who has value. - LeftCoaster
Tanev is 26. Why can't he be a part of the future as well? Replacing what he does is bloody hard, even if you're picking near the top of the draft. |

It's not...hrs actually one of the best the Canucks have in transitioning the puck out of our zone with possession. He does begin the majority of his shifts in his own zone but that's because he's good at what he does.

Speed through the neutral zone was embarrassing yesterday. Drop passes on the PP to gain entry into the offensive zone look like preschoolers |

Tanev is still young and will be in his prime when we are hopefully ready to compete...Edler should definitely be moved if he waives. - CanuckDon
He turns 27 in eight days, he'll be older than Edler when the team is even remotely competitive again. |

I like Green as well, but he also has very similar traits as WD. Rolls 4 lines, plays grinders he can trust and his PP is atrocious. I like his approach with youth though which is likely the mist important thing right now. - belcherbd
All true, but he has weak offensive personal as well. Hard to know how he would work with more skilled players |

He's 27 in a week, he'll be old when the team is good again. |

What does Tanev offer in his Prime?
Someone mentioned a few months ago that he demonstrated good outlet passes during the world cup, or championships, or whatever it's called. So we'll give him that.
He gets paid $3.5M this season and $5M for the next two seasons and then $5.25 the last season. He'll be 30 when this contract ends. Do you see the canucks being playoff competitive before his contract ends? If not, how much will it cost to extend him? |

If we are a playoff team in 3 years we will need a few 30 year olds! He is still relatively young. I would trade him if we could somehow and a young, proven top 6. Unlikely |

2013 was a pretty deep draft. Monahan isn't far behind Mackinnon or Barkov. On the same scoring rate as Mackinnon and is actually ahead of Barkov. Probably has a better 200 foot game then both of them. |

Or, he could stick around and play with guys like Juolevi or Stecher, allowing them to have more confidence to be creative which would help them in their development. |

Under his own advice, first place in their division. Under management advice losing record. - manvanfan
I'm not so sure, I read the other day that they were .500 last year before mgmt originally considered firing him but instead had a meeting where they told him to stop playing Bolland above Trotchek and to move Gudbranson away from Willie Mitchell because they were an analytical train wreck other things.
They went on a 17-3 run after that. Apparently he went back to ignoring their advice this season and this was why he was let go.
Obviously it might be false but it does make me doubt the mainstream story a bit more especially when you consider how long they have been fighting the analytical approach. |

I certainly hope we are in the playoffs in 3 years...who knows how long it's going to take. I like Tanev and his contract is great. If we got great value in a trade I wouldn't object but I don't want him traded just because he is over 25 like some here |

IF you don't trade Tanev who do you trade? Stecher? Gudbranson? Tryamkin? Stecher is Van's scoring. Gudbranson is most of Van's toughness which has been missing for a long time now. Tryamkin is a poopty version of Chara. Does Van make the same mistake as Ottawa? |

Haven't we already established player talent doesn't carry the same weight as schedule, injuries and of course coaching? |

Are they doing much better under Tom Rowe? IDK haven't been following them other then when they beat the canucks. |

I agree 100% with the bolded. I just see him as someone with value to trade. And I don't think it will hurt us too much in the future. |

Don't worry about trading anyone....the guys we could trade for assets for the most part have been moved or have left. Hold on to all your youth and picks try to add picks but only sell guys who want out. |

Hutton. I'm sorry but giggles is gonzo in a package for a legit top 6. |
