Age has nothing to do with moving Tanev, he's one of the only players with trade value, that's the deal. - LeftCoaster
You have absolutely get something of value if you are going to move him. |

Funny man, DUDE, I'm not into Toronto media, and Ill bring whatever sh!t I want here, you can blame whatever the (frank) you want and I'll blame the lack of talent on the players. This team needs a major overhaul, but hey, carry on with the coaching and schedule.. - Makita

I would be looking at trading both Tanev and Edler (when JB asks him) at the TDL. This will help our mini tank. We get someone like Landeskog for Tanev, small + and a late 1st round pick for Edler.
We draft Liljegren, use our picks wisely and voila.
Liljegren, Landeskog, picks moving forward > Tanev, Edler |

It does not show a NTC on Tanev on Cap friendly and if he did have one it is not this year.
Do I believe JB when he says he will not ask a player to waive? Damn straight I think he won't. I don't want to pile on but in the past this team has showed too much respect for their old core , so yeah I don't believe he will ask anyone to waive. - VANTEL

Random question: would you trade Hutton for a winger who is 25 years old and scored 25 goals last season? |

Tanev has.... oooh,,, 10 to 12 years left as a more than serviceable dman.
He is not trade bait.
You trade him and you will miss him within 1 year and desperately try to replace him within 2 |

He absolutely is trade bait. He would help this team move forward in two ways. Trade Value and not playing currently which will land us a top 5 pick. |

You're original argument for trading Tanev was because he'll be too old when the team is competitive again. If he was 23 right now, would you still want to trade him because he has value? Why not trade Hutton then? - nucks_94
Because he won't be 27 when the team is competitive again, he'll be in this 30's, Hutton however will be 27 around that time. |

Personally I don't think much will come from trades, it will weaken one area to prop up another.
First we needed youth with some offensive upside and traded a reliable top 4 then we needed a reliable top 4 and traded a youth with offensive upside for it.
Round and round it goes.

So age does have something to do with it... And I'm of the opinion that Tanev in his 30s will still be better than Hutton at 27. |

I'm of the opinion you have guys who can do what Tanev does by that time so why not use him to get an asset....he's not the only player who can do what he does. |

I don't think we'll ever agree on this unfortunately. Statistics show that Tanev is the best in the NHL at what he does (shot suppression), and it's not really close. I think keeping Tanev on the team and playing him with the younger guys will help both the team and the younger dmen's development more than trading him for draft picks or scoring and hoping that somebody in our system can pick up the slack. |
