He played on the left side in Juniors. His ability to cut through the middle was a huge strength. Not sure that's a good idea in the pro game.
I compare him to Gostisbehere in one way. They both have superior offensive games and they need to sacrifice some of that to tighten up their D game. Once their D game is where it needs to be they can start adding in that offensive flair that comes more naturally. I expected them to reign Ghost in this season. I also expect his offensive game to resurface soon. - mayorofangrytown
Playing defense on your off side is tougher. Everything is tougher. Skilled players can do it, and he can do it. I just don't think it's best. Given Gudas, Ghost, and Myers/Friedman all project as RDs, and Manning or AMac can play RD in the meantime, I'd prefer Sanheim play his natural LD. Ghost loves to shoot 1-timers and stuff. Sanheim is different; he does so much more work on the cycle and with his playmaking. Playing LD only makes it easier to play in his own end too, so it's not like that would be sacrificed. It has nothing to do with defense vs offense. He's just better at LD. |

Brennan prefers LD though so Sanheim is just going to have to deal with it. Newb |

It was fun while it lasted. For about a week, Andrew MacDonald was not playing like the possession drag that he had been on Shayne Gostisbehere for the better part of two months; instead, he had actually formed a solid partnership with the Flyers’ other young phenom on defense, Ivan Provorov. Dave Hakstol was using the duo as his “shutdown” pairing, and it was actually working — despite tough matchups, Provorov and MacDonald were coming out on top. In fact, MacDonald himself finished with a positive Corsi relative to his teammates in six out of seven games from 11/25 through 12/6. It was refreshing to see.
However, the safest bet is always to assume that if a player with poor historical results gets on a hot streak, it’s just that — a brief stretch of solid play that can’t be expected to hold. Over the past four games, MacDonald has posted Corsi For percentages of 33.33%, 40.74%, 32.00% and 33.33%, finishing negative relative to his teammates in the final three contests. To MacDonald’s credit, he’s still avoiding the backbreaking mistakes that plagued him early in 2016-17, but the little errors are back. He’s conceding the blue line too easily, losing puck battles in the defensive zone, and delivering passes just inaccurate enough to slow down the transition game. My suspicion is that his solid play prior to this recent four-game stretch will give him a long leash, but I wish that wasn’t the case. At best, MacDonald is a third-pair defenseman, and he’s again playing like one. This “top-pair” experiment needs to come to an end. - Charlie O'Connor

Funny thing. As I was reading that article an hour ago, I skimmed the comments and saw one from someone named "YuenglingJagr." You might want to see your lawyer about this. |

Ott is a scumbag - dragonoffrost
I think a Steve Ott is exactly what the Flyers are missing. I think we had a Steve Ott in Ryan White and undervalued his role. Tough, willing to get under the skin of whoever they go up against at any cost.
For anyone who disagrees, Manning did to McDavid what Ott not only tried to do last night but for his entire career. |
