I believe it's painfully obvious that Aquilini has decided no additional spending on Van or Utica. That's why they are dressing so many AHLer's while not adding roster players via the waiver wire or trade. I am sure Aquilini asked TL what their odds of turning around the season and making the playoffs are. Very slim. The tank has already started guys. It's a race to the bottom - CanuckDon
If only this was advertised in October, could have saved a lot of tears (mine included lol). |

All vaild points. I really think the answer is to increase the rink size. Would open up the game, get more scoring also more room so less incidents like blindsides happening. But you're right, getting the owners to foot the bill would be tough. - neem55
Just IMHO --- I would love to see European Sized Rinks. But the NHL never-ever has had that in mind. Remembered the old days (like not even 20 years ago) when there was not even a moment of thought to standarding the size of the rinks. I rememeber the old Boston rink being the size of a 8-rinks hidden 9th practice rink.

But that's it right there.
People can endlessly talk about what could hypothetically be done about it but there's very little in the way of practical action that can be implemented to achieve anything other than drastically changing the very game we all know and love.
Why did nothing happen after the Kadri hit?
Because, Newsflash: nobody gave a (frank), not the league, not the players union, not the DOPS and not the 29 other franchises or their respective fan-bases.
You fall off the horse, you get back on or at the very least, get a very large insurance benefit. - Whiskey-Tango
I disagree, I bet you the only person who genuinely does not care is Bettman as this is EXACTLY the attention the league wants. A player who was hit HARD, got back up, and wasn't seriously hurt, it made headlines on every sports network for weeks.
I can bet you that the players care, I can damn well bet that management cares, and I genuinely think that DOPS has no idea how to properly assess these hits (reason for such inconsistency with the rulings).
That hit was one of the main focal points in the GM meetings in Nov/Dec. Either way, its not like this hit is going to be taken out of the game or added in the rulebook anytime soon. You bring up some good points though. |

That is wrong. Canucks only have about 500K in cap space and if they were trying to cut costs Miller Burrows would not be on the team and they would not be spending on sending Rodin down or have Jake in Utica - VANTEL
which is the baffling thing, really as Burrows and Miller have both been mediocre at best for the past season and quarter (or whatever were at now). Seems FA and/or management has spent to the cap thinking this is a legitimately competitive team. I find that the scariest idea of all. |

I think the Kadri hit had more to do with respect and "the rule book" than anything else. A young player showing no contrition for hitting a legendary player....

Sure I think that is a plausible theory.
I still won't be surprised to see a deal or two made to add some more talent. |

Nooooo..... other than Miller getting some injuries, both players are well above what they have played in the previous two years.
Miller will go to the highest paying California team. Burrows will go to Chicago or Montreal.
Then Virtanen and Rodin will be brought up.
Burrows may even come back the following year for minimum wage. |

Then why aren't they adding depth in Utica? Also, your cap space figure is def. off. They also haven't utilized LTIR |

With Emelin out there chopping out knees you had to know there was some payback coming. Good for Krug. - LordHumungous
Emelin is the dirtiest player in the league. Bar none. He makes Burrows look like an angel. |

While you are correct on Emelin.... why compare him to Burrows?

Totally disagree. A 6 foot 5, 240 pounder can absorb an impact way better than a 5 foot 6 180 pounder. Now make all things relative... the hitter and the hittee the same sizes and I doubt there is much difference. - Beatle_john
Rome was 6'1' 218 vs Horton 6'2" 229 how did that work out? |

Within an inch, within 10 pounds.... no way to tell when you add momentum and force unless you are on The Big Bang Theory.
Plus Horton was 9/10th a vegetable due to previous concussions when he met Rome. |

I have no respect for people who overvalue canucks players, wear rose coloured glasses or insist that there is a quick fix to this gongshow (but due to incompetence, management refuses to take it, use it, seize it).
If you consider yourself a hockey fan but only watch canucks games you're lying to yourself. |

I'm not sure what you mean by adding depth to Utica?
Other than Etem any player they claim would have to stay with the Canucks or be go through waivers again.
Megna and Chaput haven't been world beaters but are they much worse than some of the other guys who we have passed on? |
