It's Terry's fault
- 22sabresQ
Honestly, you are right.
Loved when he bought the Sabres, hated when he bought the Bills.
Listen, I love the Bills (even more than the Sabres! It's a long story... I was born in 1985, so my whole life has been a really long, bad, disappointing relationship with nothing but love and support from my side yet even their best years weren't good to me).
But the best thing for the CITY of Buffalo, not it's people, but it's economy and culture, would have been if the Bills were sold and moved and 5 or 10 years from now, Pegula got an expansion.
But I'm not high on Uncle Terry and his dirty money anyway. |

Sooooooooooo.....
LA hasn't won in Buffalo in it's last 7 tries.
Hoping the trend continues and we get a W tonight. - HonkFortheGoose
Over the past 4 years, there have been a lot of teams come into Buffalo not having won in (frank)ing years and they straight kill us in those games. St. Louis comes to mind year before the blow-up.

Well, Terry Pegula's 1+ Billion dollars would have eventually played into that. |

I lived in Binghamton for a few years. Trust me, I know, lol.
That being said, Endicott is easily the best of the bunch out there. I honestly think it's a cute town. Obviously has it's share of problems. Getting ass (frank)ed by IBM sure didn't help.
At least you aren't in Norwich |

I commented on that earlier today.
When they win, we're playoff bound.
When we lose, they're tanking heading for a lotto pick.
Everything isn't a binary. |

That would have had be a part of the deal, obviously. But the NFL cares about money and Pegula is a billionaire. So if the Bills would have moved then, we certainly would have gotten an expansion within the decade in a New Team/New Stadium deal.
poop, if they gave Cleveland the Browns again, we certainly would have gotten the Bills again, eventually. |

The NFL wanted 32 teams that's why Cleveland got their team back. I don't see the NFL expanding any time soon |

If they simply wanted 32 teams, surly there were at least a dozen other places they could have put one for the sake of having 32 teams.
Actually, after some reading, this section stands out most (Wiki):
"Inactivity (1996–99)
After extensive talks between the NFL, the Browns, and officials of the two cities, Cleveland accepted a legal settlement that would keep the Browns legacy in Cleveland.[120] In February 1996, the NFL announced the Browns would be 'deactivated' for three years, and a new stadium would be built for a new Browns team, as either an expansion team or a team moved from another city, that would begin play in 1999."
This in response to Modell trying to move the team to Baltimore.
So it really wasn't about 32 teams in the NFL. It was a huge legal matter. The Cleveland BoG had just approved a 6 figure budget to renovate the existing stadium in Cleveland, and the team relocation was announced the day before the renovation approval. |

Wow, apparently, the relocation of the original Cleveland Browns and legal settlement of the new Cleveland Browns caused the massive influx of new stadiums built in the early 2000s, since a new stadium was a part of the deal reached between the NFL and the City of Cleveland.
There were a DOZEN teams that threatened relocation if their city didn't provide tax payer dollars, numbering in the hundreds of millions of dollars, to build new stadiums in their respective cities as a result of this legal agreement.
Anyone want to guess which teams those were? Hah. |
