the bottom line is, the guys that work hard and do the intangibles are important to have in terms of showing the work ethic you want to see, but are much more common. The skilled guys are the difference between winners and losers in this league. Skill=ability to defend/score/pass/possess/create chances.
clutterbuck/Shaw/dorsett/Martin type guys are being overvalued. When they have their play decline, it really shows. Skill guys that can really get it done are worth more. Islanders last two contracts have been awful. Ladd/clutterbuck for that much money should be a big red flag for JT.
Anyone have an opinion on where Iginla goes? I hope Tampa or St.loouis - neem55
Some NHL analyst said Edmonton but that would be so stupid. Seen what Iggy does with teams that play with super speed like Pitt compared to teams that play slower like Boston. |

I think Brisbois is quietly going to develop into a reliable character defenseman for the Canucks in a couple of seasons. Lack is a fringe starter at best and we are set up nice in net without him going forward. I'm good with this trade.
- boonerbuck
Yup, although I'm still not too confident Brisebois will be a player, Lack has really struggled getting a high 3rd looks good now. |

Todd Cordell sounds like someone Don Cherry would F'n Hate.
Bieska and Seabrook...... They have so much intangibles that they don't have room for any skill. - classic321
D always get paid more then forwards because you have half of them on each team. Bieska and Seabrook put up as many points per season as Clutterbuck does except they are capable of keeping the puck out of their own net. Intangibles if you can do other things like Lucic or Troy Brouwer types get paid more. Still have to be able to do more then run around and hit someone. |

Except for the part about drafting players in the 2nd round. - Vanoxy
Do we have a 2nd rounder in this summer's draft?

Calgary is weaker than us on the right wing. If the Flames are challenging for the division it would be poetic. - Max.Betts
That would be awesome, would love to see him return and them make some noise.
I know I'll get shat on for that comment but Iginla is pure class and I like how Calgary have rebuilt. |

We have a place holder there for 1, possibly 2 but I'm not counting the chickens until after TDL. |

Montreal?
edit maybe on the 3rd/4th line, with a bit of PP time. - dbot
If he's looking to win a cup I'd say Tampa or St. Louis would probably be better choices than MTL, 1 injury to Price and their hopes are gone. |

You should know better than I that Iggy always turns it up as the season goes on. |

I am having a hard time believing he's a pending UFA already. I remember him signing in Colorado and being shocked at the term |

He doesn't really do much to get excited about but he seems to have a big fan club when it comes to coaches and team mates. I imagine his progress will be slow but steady in pro. He's going to be a Comet very soon so we'll get a look.
I had a spike in optimism when it looked like he was going to break out offensively after he was traded. He had a hot first few games but looks like he's settled back into his former role.

From the last blog...you questioned what I meant when I said the team isn't spending $ anymore for Utica or Van. Pretty simple, pickup waiver scraps from better teams, send our entire 4th line to Utica. Magma, Chuput and Skille would be great additions as well as Gaunce or Biega. Utica is suffering this year and I suspect it's due to restrictions on salary. They could easily add depth in Vancouver and bolster the farm team. |

Are we still outraged that he was called up? Or flabbergasted that he was sent down? - dbot
Outrage on how he was coached on the bench while backing up... no urgency, no system, no cushion provided which hurt his feeling more than his cold butt.

Bieksa and Seabrook can't keep the puck out of their own net
They have some of the worst shot-suppression numbers in the league.
Probably why both have been relegated to the 3rd pairing on their teams.

He was a captain at age 17 and was then traded to a new team and made captain. That tells you what his teammates and coaches think! |

the flamer fans would be irate, this would be amazing. I don't see it happening either though. He did quite a bit better in pittsburgh ppg wise than in boston, not sure what you're are getting at there. |

Good point.
This is how i see the rebuild going as well.
Aka, not a tear-it-down tank job like Toronto. - dbot

Also if i remember correctly, Eric requested a trade before being shopped to NYR so he could get his chance at a cup. |

For us to have a similar to rebuild to carolina it requires picks something which Benning hates.
in 2016 they had 6 picks in the first 3 rounds
we had 2
in 2017 they have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds so far.
we have 3 |
