I tried to explain that... in fact, this point you are making may be the highlight of the season, if not one of them.... but it glossed over.

They actually think Sbisa is better. Sbisa? The guy who needs a GPS to go into a corner. The guy who cannot complete a pass without a receipt.

- Beatle_john

From a stats standpoint, it's just a fact. He has gotten better steadily since joining the Canucks.

Quite possibly. I cant see him completely retiring though, but maybe get one of those cushy Hockey Canada gigs
- WhiteLie

He turns 65 on Saturday, I doubt he coaches in the NHL again. If he takes on a new gig he should accept one that allows him the freedom to do what the hell he please with his time.

Don't bother...

I didn't even say Sbisa was better... just that they were similar players and he lost his (frank)ing mind

No.
Hutton does not collapse under pressure as frequently as E.G does.
Hutton does not pass the puck to the opposition as often as E.G does.
Hutton can actually skate the puck out of the d-zone as opposed to E.G.
Hutton actually has some semblance of offensive ability.
Hutton has played 105 games, E.G has played 339.
E.G has no excuse, Hutton does.

Annnnnd most importantly, E.G is going to command a long-term contract in the 5 million dollar range, likely becoming our highest paid guy back there.

Seriously! When the (frank) was the last time he had good game? Did we win the game where he did play well? (And don't referenece the Tampa game, he was still shiat regardless of his 2pts).

- Whiskey-Tango

Hutton isn't ready for top4 deployment. Get out of fantasy land, put the drugs down for a second and have a good long look at his stats since he got put in the top 4 in February of last year.

If we pony up big money long term for EG I'll probably puke.

Same

Literally qualify him at the 10% raise for next season then let him walk year after next.

Fine... you win. You're a little totally blind but you win.

Keep Sbisa. Enjoy.

- Beatle_john

I think the arguement that Sbisa has been better this year than EG is a valid one ...might not be popular to most ...and might not continue long term ...but this year I think Sbisa has been the better of the two

Oh no....

While I agree with you....

You just opened up a whole new kettle of fish....

So true...Hutton gets a pass because he has a big goofy grin

Yup, trade two assets for him then you pretty much have to double down.

Agreed.

Worst case give him 4 million for 4 years.

That comes down to deployment/competition, not at all a fair comparison

You are wonderful at completely ignoring context. Good for you
The point was not who's a top 4 Dman (as frankly neither are), the point was who's worse.

E.G has played three times the amount of games as Hutton and has yet to cement himself as anything other than a depth (bottom 6) defenseman.

Let's see where Hutton's at after playing 300 plus games lol.

For those of you discussing EG, don't forget he is basically being called upon to be our #1 right now. He was playing much better when we had Edler in the lineup as wellas Tanev. He is a good second pairing defenseman who is currently playing out his depth as top pairing. He is better now than Tanev was at this point(3 years difference).

I like Hutton and have patience with young players but he has had more giveaways than Sbisa did in his first year with the Canucks. Defensive trainwreck so far

Yep.
But to use that as a defense of E.G abysmal play is a tad simplistic.

They all equally blow. There, how's that?

Tanev is 2 years older than EG, and has played less NHL games. Tanev has been solid since he's been in our lineup.

While I agree he hasn't been as physical as I wish I believe his presence keeps other teams in line for the most part. When Martin went after a rookie he took care of it and was vocal off the ice as well. Who else on our team can play meaningful minutes and play that role? No one.
Edit. He also has a lot of respect in the room and around the league. Florida was considering him their future captain for awhile. Also, Martin's comments after the fight demonstrated respect.

- CanuckDon

I agree that EG is better but the bolded is kind of the biggest sticking point for me. I had hoped at the very least that he could play some meaningful low event minutes but so he hasn't.

Sbisa has played better this year but both IMO are bottom pairing D. Useful guys but over paid ( or soon to be) for what they provide.

It basically proves my point, that Sbisa and Gudbranson are similar players...
- nucks_94

The biggest takeaway from their fancy stats is their PDO's.

Sbisa is at over 101 and EG is at 94, essentially suggesting that Sbisa is getting a bit of good luck and EG is pretty unlucky at this point.

We should expect Sbisa's possession and traditional stats to decrease and EG's to increase over the year or at the very least next season.

Yah, and those 'intangibles' sure have worked wonders. You would think a guy that has been lauded as such a great leader and team presence would have led by example last night during the 3rd period collapse.

Instead he's seen time and again wiping pucks up the boards to the opposition in almost a tantrum like fashion.

(frank)ing comical.

- Whiskey-Tango

I think he did lead by example.
