For us to have a similar to rebuild to carolina it requires picks something which Benning hates.
in 2016 they had 6 picks in the first 3 rounds
we had 2
in 2017 they have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds so far.
we have 3 - classic321
We are obviously at different stages of a rebuild.
And they will not be identical.
The point was that you can get prospects into the system without 'tanking' and Carolina is an example of that and an approach that i could see Vancouver taking.
the flamer fans would be irate, this would be amazing. I don't see it happening either though. He did quite a bit better in pittsburgh ppg wise than in boston, not sure what you're are getting at there. - neem55
The same size in Pitt was small, I just remember after his time there that he wasn't geared up for the pace of playing with crosby. He put up points.
Maybe my memory is a bit joggled and it was meant that he just wasn't a good fit to be playing with crosby.

Selling players to finish in the bottom 5 is tanking. Carolina has done this multiple times. - neem55
I think they've just stunk the past few years and wound up with decent picks (something that i think will happen to Vancouver this year, and last year).
They picked up J.Staal to join Eric a few years back, things didn't work out and as noted above, Eric requested a trade and was moved for a pair of 2nds essentially.
Sounds similar to Vancouver to me.
Try to compete, end up sucking, draft players and restock the cupboard, move players with NTCs if/when they request a trade.
Outrage on how he was coached on the bench while backing up... no urgency, no system, no cushion provided which hurt his feeling more than his cold butt.

The end of the tunnel is looking very very dark still.
I think this is the year that Columbus will give us the 2nd round pick for Tortorella. Especially, if CBJ finishes in the top ten. - Healthy-Scratch
I just don't see it...this years draft isn't particularly strong at the top but it has pretty good depth. Are they planning on being terrible in 2 seasons? Of course not. They have no incentive to give us their pick this season in my opinion.

I agree, although they also haven't been spending money on high priced UFA's and I think their Teravainen trade was more akin to rebuilding rather than retooling.

That's fair. I'd take Toronto's lineup over Carolina's at this point though. Or Buffalo's. Just saying.

I don't know if there really is much of a distinction at the beginning of the process.
If things go one way, and the team improves markedly, has some luck, drafts a stud then it can be framed as a retool.
If things go south, drafted players don't develop as well or as quickly as expected and the team continues to suck, then the process is dragged out and becomes a rebuild as a matter of necessity.
IMO.
Wasn't he the one of the last 2 cut last year? - boonerbuck
judging by the names on that list, it would take something crazy for him to make the final cut for D men. They have some really good players on D. Would be fantastic to see him make it though!

I just mean that trade in particular where they took on a bad contract in Bickell and Teravainin in exchange for a 2nd and 3rd.

But will they risk giving us next seasons and having a poor finish and giving us a better pick? it has to be 17 or 18 for the pick. No other options. If they finish well this years is the better bet.

Sounds like he didnt like playing left wing, not like he didnt like/fit with the team. They got to the conference finals. He scored 11 points in 12 games... I think we just have different opinions on this one.
The Jack Adams is such a weird award. Torts is the front runner because he has taken a bottom feeder into the playoffs, not that he has done anything different or special this year
