The great part about the TWC app is it's literally just like having a box connected to the TV. Gives you the guide and all your normal subscription channels. We have 5 TVs in the house, but only 1 box. We have 2 Roku's that we move around depending on what room we're in if need be.

I use that for watching the game on the right half of my putor. HB on the left .

You could also use Homie's suggestion, but get rid of the two extra boxes you have and Whole House DVR and get the Roku sticks and use them on the extra TVs in the house. The TWC App for Roku is pretty amazing. It's just like using the box. Still get HD and all that.
- HonkFortheGoose

You're saying keep the cable subscription, but get rid of the DVR and digital boxes.

Buy roku sticks instead and feed content to the other two sets over the Roku?

That would work but still doesn't reduce the cost by the same amount. Tech is right, pricing isnt

OK I need a few of you beard wearing hipster IT types to tell me if I'm crazy.

My current TimeWarner cable bill is $210/mo. We need that to cover internet and all the essential cable TV {MSG, HBO, CNN, FOX, Bloomberg, HGTV, Bravo, Cartoon, Food, major OTA networks}. We also have a whole house DVR, with three digital sets at 1080p. I have a subscription to Amazon Prime that we use to send stuff to my daughter at college and other gifts to family around the country. We're keeping that, cause the boy will go to school as soon as she graduates.

My current internet is 30 Mbps. I can double that to 60Mbps, get rid of the cable package and the HDTV boxes, and reduce my cable bill to $60/mo.

With the faster speed, I can get 1 Roku Streaming Stick, and two Roku's Express. If I combine the existing Amazon Prime with SlingTV and NetFlix subscription, I can cover every thing except the OTA Networks and the Sabres. NHLtv will allow me to subscribe to the Sabres ($50/yr), and if I get a VPN subscription ($100) a year I'll never get blacked out. I need an OTA antenna card for the networks.

All this rolled together every month is $60 (internet); $35 (Sling) $12 (Netflix) and $15 (annualized NHLtv w/VPN). That's $122/mo - or $90/mo less than current. One time hardware cost is $70 (Streaming stick comes free with Roku subscription, two Expresses at $30/each and $10 for the antenna) so it pays for itself first month.

What am I missing? Can an old dude who can post Youtube videos and gifs manage the set up for this system?

- Der Kaiser

I'm planning on doing the same thing. FWIW

You won't even need the VPN though because you don't need to hide your location to avoid Sabres blackouts.

He doesn't have a lagging injury like last year or the year before.

I might be biased (I own a Foligno amerks jersey) but I'd like him to stick around. He's got a good thing going on. I would probably cut off negotiations after 4yrs/12mil

You'd only keep 1 box and hopefully get a good discount (like homie said) for them to retain you as a customer. The price you're paying for the whole house DVR and the two additional boxes is probably at least $30 plus then factor in the retention discount. It may still be a bit more monthly than the other way you're looking at doing things, but it will be a hell of a lot easier to make those changes and will basically be exactly what you have now, but cheaper. No having to figure out work-arounds or discovering that something isn't available to you that you got when you had the cable subscription.

You need to find a girl that is capable of taking care of herself and doesn't expect you to spend all your money on her. (BTW, they do exist)
