OK I need a few of you beard wearing hipster IT types to tell me if I'm crazy.

My current TimeWarner cable bill is $210/mo. We need that to cover internet and all the essential cable TV {MSG, HBO, CNN, FOX, Bloomberg, HGTV, Bravo, Cartoon, Food, major OTA networks}. We also have a whole house DVR, with three digital sets at 1080p. I have a subscription to Amazon Prime that we use to send stuff to my daughter at college and other gifts to family around the country. We're keeping that, cause the boy will go to school as soon as she graduates.

My current internet is 30 Mbps. I can double that to 60Mbps, get rid of the cable package and the HDTV boxes, and reduce my cable bill to $60/mo.

With the faster speed, I can get 1 Roku Streaming Stick, and two Roku's Express. If I combine the existing Amazon Prime with SlingTV and NetFlix subscription, I can cover every thing except the OTA Networks and the Sabres. NHLtv will allow me to subscribe to the Sabres ($50/yr), and if I get a VPN subscription ($100) a year I'll never get blacked out. I need an OTA antenna card for the networks.

All this rolled together every month is $60 (internet); $35 (Sling) $12 (Netflix) and $15 (annualized NHLtv w/VPN). That's $122/mo - or $90/mo less than current. One time hardware cost is $70 (Streaming stick comes free with Roku subscription, two Expresses at $30/each and $10 for the antenna) so it pays for itself first month.

What am I missing? Can an old dude who can post Youtube videos and gifs manage the set up for this system?

my lady could easily end up making more than me in a few years. She works her ass off and is in the process of getting a masters degree to go with her two or is it three bachelors. she is in a market that allows her higher end salary to be higher than mine. I have pretty much maxed my salary for what i do, unless i move to a bigger market, which i do not want to do..

While I like Carrier's style of play ... I don't think his game is fully baked yet.
he needs to go down and work on generating more production.
I wouldn't mind seeing a rotation of 2 - 3 guys called up to fill the left wing on ROR and Rhino's line. It could be a nice way to develop and reward these guys to keep them chomping at the bit to produce ... once they cool off, send them down for 5 - 10 games to rework their game.

Wow, I'm really strugglng with two fantasy decisions this week. In two leagues I got A-Rod and Mariota. A-Rod banged up bad unless he's been putting it on the last 2 weeks and playing in a game that allegedly could be one of the coldest in history. Mariota no great shake either in another cold one in KC. Then I'm trying to figure out Gurley tonight in Sea or Rob Kelley vs. Lina on MNF. Would be nice to have skin in tonight's game who might be a benefactor from coach firing vs one of the best run stopping D's especially at home. Nobody giving him any chance of playing good, which makes me a little intrigued. Or have a MNF safety valve who is hit or miss in a game I think Captain Kirk will be chucking it. That's where my head's at. Gurley decision is going to have to come soon.

One thing to consider is that you have no DVR capability with SlingTV. An alternative is Playstation Vue, which I believe you can use through Roku or FireTV if you don't have a PS device. It's a similar service to SlingTV, but has something akin to DVR functionality baked in. You would have to check the channel lineup and availability in your to see if it covers your needs.

For OTA networks, checkout the Mohu Leaf indoor antennas. I've never used one because I live in a valley on an island and can't get OTA channels via antenna, but I've heard very good things about their antennas.
