Lundqvist, meanwhile, had to be carted off, in order to undergo the required concussion protocol, resulting in Antti Raanta replacing him between the pipes.
i think "helped off" is probably the better verbiage here since he skated off on his own power but i agree 100% with the following paragraph.
the amount of players near hank whistle after whistle makes my blood boil. there's very little bite in front of him on this team. teams are going to realize that you can do almost anything to the this team with no threat of any physical response.
great blog, very happy they won and i guess more important than the physical response was hanks. he was lights out. |

Jan, isn't that 3 shutouts in the last 4 games? You said 2. Raanta had the one in Chicago, then against NJ & last night in between the home loss to the Hawks Tuesday. - B2B76
it is, but now we look like a-holes nitpicking his blog in back to back posts

Only 2 goals scored and we still won, Hank was fantastic last night despite the sissies playing in front of him.
Hank doesn't get the shutout because he had to leave the ice? If the league mandates the protocol, they should award the shutout to the starter. |

The main point here is the total lack of a firery response, or any response! Vesey looked like he needed his Mommy there as he looked around wondering what to do.
I'm just worried about other teams seeing this & then thinking it's ok to take liberties & nothing will be done...looking directly at the Flyers, Penguins, etc. I don't think dressing Glass will help much, 90% of the time tht enforcer presence is useless in today's game but someone then has to hold the other guys accountable. Klein
Can be that guy. Holden was engaged & was ready to go when that other hit was thrown hard but clean. |

I do not like that they did virtually nothing to Eakin, but you do have to look at who was on the ice and realize that nobody was going to drop the gloves from the Rangers. There's skill and lots of speed; but no spunk to stick up for teammates, and I have never seen such a thing from a Rangers team in a long long time. Every player needs to do it at least a time or two in their career. Even if you get your a$$ whipped, at least send a message that you are going to do something about it.
Nice to see Holden get a chip on his shoulder. Need more of that. |

I think Hank got the shutout. Raanta didn't face any shots. Am I incorrect there? I can see the SO being not given if Raanta made a save or two, but that didn't happen. |

it was said during the game on here but it all falls on the 5 guys on the ice. it was a PP, so granted already there isnt much bite with the players on ice but someone needed to do something. i keep bouncing back and forth on vesey. on one hand, the kids a baby in the NHL, 30+ games in. but christ kid, its cody (frank)ing eakin. it wasnt some goon who would turn around and pummel you. he should have 2 handed him right across the back of the legs as he skated by, who cares if the ref saw it. he probably thinks "dont want to lose the PP" but my god.
there is only a small window now a days to get a player back on a major thats called on the ice. the refs surround the player who committed the major so quickly nobody can get near him. best response would have been banging in 2 on the PP, and when they didnt it couldnt have looked worse. |

I will say that yes, the players on the ice saw the refs arm go immediately up so they knew it was a penalty but when your money maker is laying down reeling after getting run the fack over you do something, take your pound of flesh! IF Eakin (which he was) is being held by the official, you take it out on the next Geeen jersey that's in front of you. That's the problem w today's game, they aren't brought up w tht same "rough house" mentality to play hockey you & me did. I don't like fighting & rough stuff for no reason but there's a time & place for it still when the other team takes liberties w your guys. |

Fvck that. I would have accepted the Bertuzzi-Moore treatment there. Ok...maybe not that far, but something close. |

AV seemed to call out for a harsh suspension. Being that Hank came back & played great does that effect the leagues look? It shouldn't but we've seen before they suspend more on result rather than the offense or the intent. |

Perhaps that hit last night was payback...
...payback for the Messier hit on Modano. Someone needs to post that video. Make sure it goes all the way to where the EMT's drop the stretcher |

Back in the day there were much more ugly incidents in hockey, a couple every year it seemed. Hunter/Turgeon, Cicarelli/Dave Manson, Sandstorm/Dave Brown, the above mentioned incidents. Every yr Chris Simon did something stupid.

I posted it on FB yesterday as an"TBT" post, plus my 1 good friend is a Stars fan....that Mess hit on Modano was over 20 years ago. Eakin probably wasn't even born or aware of it. It was just a stupid play last night, how the hell do you slam
Right into the goaltender?! |
