hey guys, been sick so been out of it a couple of days

to me, part of the problem is the stupid instigator rule

if anybody was actually able to get to Eakins and engage a fight it would have been a minor, major and 10 minute misconduct 17 minute penalty debacle.

Why they have to always throw that 10 minute extra on it is beyond me.

Feel better...

I think they damaged that instigator rule. I recall when it was simply a guy starting a fight with another for virtually no reason other than to fight...something along those lines. No instigator was ever assessed after a big hit or a play like from last night when a player went after another for such things. It was pretty much labled a reaction rather than instigation. Today, though, if your gloves come off a second before the other guys's you get the instigator...and that's just plain women's hockey.

If you remember the instigator rule was implemented actually because of the gooning the Isles did at the end of Gm1 in the 1990 playoff round against us. Vukota & Bomber needlessly starting fights for no reason. It had been rumored for a while but after that incident it went into effect that next yr.

But the meaning of that rule has lost its intent MOST times.

What an ass.
My take on the anti-Brodeur trapezoid rule should be that the protective crease should be extended to include the trapezoid, and let the goalie play the puck in the corners unprotected. If he wants to play the puck, fine. Just allow him to be hit.

Holden and Hayes(?) did show some grit after the hit in front of Hank, just had the wrong guys on the ice when Hank got run over.
Think Eakins will get a "Kreider rep"?

I just watched the play in full on Rangers 60

to me, there wasn't a whole lot of time to even get to Eakins

The hit happens, and Eakins skates up the ice really quickly, the play stops, Nash tries to engage him, the linesman whisks Eakins away.

also,

If a goalie is in the spot check concussion protocol, the backup goalie should be allowed to get warm ups. I think it's ridiculous that they have to come in cold when the starting goalie is forced to leave in this kind of manner.

Great point. Not as though the team pulled the goalie, there should be a warm up. Remember when Raanta was yanked for the protocol and Hank choked? Warm up might have helped.
I think Hank really went off the ice because the hit messed up his hair and he had to redo it.

how do you spell satisfaction:
come back & pick up the gauntlet & produce big time....
for the "lets get HANK out plan " please go back & rethink your rotissierie plan

In the know realize how much gmaes can grind & when A V went Hot instead of
just stick to the old routine ... it changes the dynamics of the position & who is going to get between the pipes every nite .....
maybe a reality check in Dec cruise mode was all HANK needs to shake of ff the doldrums and play on top like last nite ... coulda sat out after hit & played it
low key BUT went back & gets a SHUT OUT !
cmon thats a talented guy PRODUCING.... HIs own words dripped of desperation to get back to his game and FOCUS .... HE did ... look at the results...
team must feel 10 ft tall with 3 in 4 gms ( shut outs ) .... can t wait for back to backs this wk end ...L G R

After the Hit, the closest guy was Skjei, he just got 19 stictches in his face so he cant fight, plus he has a full shield on, I think by rule he would get tossed (Not sure if they kept that rule on the books or not, but nobody would want him fighting anyway so its a moot point.
Then there was Vesey... I get it rookie, what do I do, do I get in trouble if I do something? I expected a two hander across his calves ... SOMETHING! But I get why he didnt, not knowing AV's protocol on retaliation and its not part of his game.

After Vesey was Hayes, and that's where I stop. I put it on Hayes if Vesey does nothing. Hayes is a big boy he has to grab him and do something.

Hanks confidence may have been shaky coming in, hoping his team still had faith in him and still had his back . He payed a phenomenal game, some of those saves were outright robbery, but I bet he wanted to know someone on his team wasn't gonna let that slide and I hope hes not thinking.. WTF guys?? Nobody stood up for me??

We discussed this back then and I think we all agreed, a goalie has to be treated differently and wouldn't be surprised if they change the rule at the end of the year or maybe before the playoffs to let the goalie get a quick warmup in

if not, this could be an issue in the playoffs

could even be a strategy to get knock a goalie out of the game for awhile

Lucic's hit on Miller was way worse and he wasn't suspended for it. Eakin turns his body to try and avoid hitting him.

Eakins was a direct shot to Henrik's head and it knocked his mask off, not sure if you have heard about the head shot policy of the NHL yet, but you are a fan of a team that employed Patrick Kaleta so I understand

You're absolutely right, coward goons are protected in this league, label them liberals cause it's no different
