if I had been 3 inches more left of where I was it would have caught me in the temple, I wasn't really watching for it cause the net is there just for that reason, after it grazed me I picked it up and gave it to my kid, it has the date and the teams its pretty cool.

I watched it a couple of times now and yeah, Vesey looks to the ref, but Eakins skates really fast back to his own zone after the incident, the whistle is called and Nash engages him

I really don't think they had a whole lot of time to do something

- jimbro83

You make time. Part of me wants to give Vesey a Quasi-pass for being a rookie, etc.. JUST a quasi.... Skjei gets one because of his stitches and full shield. But I'm not giving Hayes a pass and I'm a huge Hayes fan.

I really think then you are calling for a Bertuzzi on Moore type tackle

Not in the least... I played long enough to know the difference between a cheap shot like that or making a guy answer for his actions. Hayes is bigger than him even though neither are fighters. You grab him, throw some shots, or throw him down and let him know he doesn't get off scott free. You do that for ANY of your teammates but more so a goalie whose mindset is not one of a regular player who expects to get hit when they have their head down looking at the puck.
I don't know everyone's history with the sport on this board (players or just fans) but I know Rentz played, his name is familiar to me and I'm willing to bet he agrees.

my point is that Eakins skated so fast back to his own zone after the incident that I don't think they had the time to do it.

When the whistle stopped play, Nash engaged him and they whisked Eakins away.

I wish they killed the guy too, I am just saying they didn't really have the opportunity

We need to forget this, Hank is ok, we won the game. Frustrated w the lack of response but it's not Armageddon. When does Dallas come into NY?

tuesday January 17th

if NHL had any brains, they'd suspend Eakin until after that game

edit: that would mean a 14 game suspension

Cody Eakin is having a phone hearing for his hit on Lundqvist. Max suspension would be five games. #NYR

You can see it now. They'll build up all this talk the day or 2 before the game & NOTHING will happen. First off even if Glass dressed the officials would step in & go all over zealous on calling penalties. Whatever, let's just hope we step up more the next time a Ranger is taken out.

And then he'll Get suspended for who knows how many games. Keep it simple, invite Eakin to go & if he does, good, it's over at that. If he doesn't want to fight then he opens himself up to cheap shots. It would suit him to just get it over with & fight on his first shift.

isn't amazing how loyal we are? you guys win two Cups in the early 90's and then disappear to the point where the Penguins are ready to move to Kansas City and Bettman orchestrates Crosby to your team just to keep them in Pittsburgh and to appease Mario, and now you guys act like you are the greatest fans in the world.
- jimbro83

Here's your cup Cindy. Bettman could hardly contain himself.

Yup. Always the hype of revenge and then nothing happens. I'm fine with a suspension.

From ESPN's Joe McDonald:

Shows what little knowledge ESPN has on hockey.

the writer is implying that goalies should be fair game for head shots apparently

An embarrasment that no one jumped Eakin after the hit. Any other team would gladly take a retaliation penalty to send a message. Good game, but the response to Hank getting hit was a joke!!

- rrentz

Rangers took one look at Eakin's face and realized Nature had already retaliated against him. No need to pile on.

Yes, and there are a number of people out there that feel the same way (not the head shot part). He never said head shots, he said that goalies should be able to be hit when playing the puck like any other skater. However, he goes on to explain how the rule book says that goalie are not fair game and that therefore the right call was made per the rulebook. I think that shows that he does know something about hockey.

Edit: "A goaltender should be fair game for a legal hit when he leaves the crease."

Nowhere in that article did he state that you should be able to take a head shot at a goalie. I think he was using last night's play as an example (a bad one) of how he feels about goalie protection. I don't go to ESPN for hockey news, but this is not some jabroni typing, "Yous guys should always hit the goalie in the head with your stick, the NHL is too soft now."

it would be one thing if he wrote this piece before the incident that happened last night

it's another thing to write this in response to the incident. Because that was all about the headshot
