Risto seems more to be the "let my play do the talking" guy. ROR has that, but he's also more vocal on the bench (from what I'm able to see). I go ROR - jcragcrumple

What is harder to get in one offseason?
One top 6 forward and a top 3 defensemen a guy who can be a good number 2 but if I want to split the talent up have him "anchor" the 2nd pairing
Or two top 6 forwards?
Right now the Sabres need a top 6 winger and a top 3 type defensemen
If they moved Reinhart for the defensemen they would need to then find 2 top 6 wingers.
Which is easier to do? |

Find wingers x100
There are value guys that perform at a top 6 level available in FA every year.
Marchessault, Vrbata, Stempniak, Grabner etc. |

Here's what I can say. I don't know for sure, but I have to believe, that people who are employed in the front offices of NHL franchises watch way more hockey than we do, and have way greater "talent analysis" skills than we do.
So if a good deal of the monkey/blowhard/idiots who pretend to do other work for a living are sitting in this thread all day saying:
"SHHHHHH, don't tell anybody Reinhart is a bust so we can trade him for a high value player ... "
I just think that is a jedi mind trick that won't really work. - Der Kaiser
I won't speak for the rest of the idiots but this particular idiot doesnt see reinhart as a bust. He believes (as homie stated) that we should move reinhart for the right d-man because a) that position holds more value when building a cup contender b) replacing production on the wing through FA is far easier c) im confident that like 87/71 in pittsburgh, Eichel will generally make any winger look better so as long its someone with scoring prowess who isnt a complete sh!thead in his own end it should work out fine. |

The wingers. There are always more of them available and 15 will make any winger look better than he actually is. Plenty available at the deadline too. |

Risto as captain would be interesting, was there not some chatter about his status in the locker room though?
I wouldn't mind the decision but ultimately its jacks team so Id just give it to him. Some combination of Jack, ROR, Risto imo. |

Since Murray took over he's added (not from draft picks) O'Reilly, Kane and Okposo to the top 6.
In that same time his best addition to the defense....was Brendan Guhle. That pretty much says it all |

I don't think anyone sees him as a bust. I think people see him as a (get ready for it) complimentary piece, rather than a building block.
Maybe some GM's still think Reinhart can be a #1 center. Maybe a team has a surplus of young D, but lack offense (looking at you, Carolina)

I agree. I think the captain should be between Risto and O'reilly. I don't think eichel will ever be that super strong 2 way player, he makes me think of a kane type of player. Very valuable and very good, but for captain material, consistency in all situations is key. O'Reilly would be a great natural pick for a captain. Simply put, Canadian players make the best captains in this league. |

Yet this team could only get one winger here this offseason and that was a mix of Moulson and Eichel being here.
My point is they tried like hell to get 2 wingers here last off season and only got 1.
They added a guy who they thought could be a 2nd pairing defensemen.
I have a hard time moving Reinhart for a defensemen and leaving 2 gaping holes in the top 6. |

Looking at what was needed he needed to add to the top 6.
Guhle is in the lineup next season.

I like Scandella but I think his 11 goal in 64 game year might be an outlier.
He's had 5 since in 92 games.
I think we need a more offensively potent guy |

Even though they won cups, they are not anywhere near the top 10 captains of all time. |
