Boosting THE TRADE more? - GilPerreault11
The trade has almost been two years ago now, it is what it is... and, I'll admit, they one it. But, I do like Kane as a player albeit he can be a stupid player at times. He is an asset, he has skill. If he can keep up the consistency we see now, I really like him on the team. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening. His history says this success will be short lived. If Murray were to trade him now that he's turning heads again, I'd be okay with that.
As for Winnipeg, well... they got a lot from us, but WHAT did they really get? Stafford who was done here anyway and would have netted us probably a second rounder. Armia who still can't get it together and produce points 6 years after being drafted. Lemieux who still can't crack an NHL line up 3 years after being drafted at #31. Myers...? Good, not great, I like him for a solid 3-4 guy. And, the 1st round pick, which in my opinion was the piece that added too much to the trade, this was the overpayment.

Assets.
Armia, Myers, Lemieux, Stafford and Roslovic could all up and retire tomorrow and it wouldn't really matter. What matters is what we got in return for that value.

A decent impact player 11pts in the last 10 games. I will take that . |

he got two young vets to immediately plug into the lineup while the other thousand or so picks they had the previous three years had an opportunity to develop...

Sure. But we missed the playoffs last year, more than likely miss this year, while the futures involved are developing.
Chances are 4 of the 5 pieces for WPG end up playing for them next year if none are Vegas bound. |

did you really expect them to make the playoffs last season? |

I didn't. However, when you make trades like this that supposedly "speed up the rebuild", missing the playoffs two seasons in a row should be, and is, utterly unacceptable.
Simply put, given the entire body of work, I have yet to be convinced that Winnipeg trade made the Sabres a better team, even considering this 10 game stint Kane has played, which is, by far, his best in two seasons, playing a role that he is overpaid to. The O'Reilly trade definitely did. This one is still a question mark at best. |

Not at all. But Murray got now players then, when now didn't matter too much. |

this season isn't even over and already you're leaving them for dead...
Sabreland soured on both myers and Stafford, for obvious reasons...everyone was pissed because Lemieux was traded yet it's looking like he'll have a hard time cracking an NHL lineup...and all of a sudded armia is the second coming of jaromir jagr?....
right now it's an even trade at worst for buffalo, imo |

I think I get what you're saying...now mattered...so does the need for all of these different pieces to start gelling...we're starting to see it now...not a finished product by any stretch, but it's starting to come together |

Right now is the key phrase. We are in agreement that we aren't competing for a cup this year, right? |

We are no where close to a playoff spot yet, and have to jump 4 other teams.
Call me silly when we are there. |

Lately you have been referring to "the Disaster Twins." I'd like some clarification as to exactly who that means, because - as I read through this thread - I'm thinking it might not be Kuli and Bogo, as I initially thought. |

Then, let's see it. I heard this last year with Kane at seasons end. He finished the season great.
Then trouble, then injury, then 10 games with no goals.
I don't think we can just erase all the bad because it feels good. Not yet at least |

you must admit, 10 games is a pretty good spurt and he's getting those points in a good way...don't forget, he's on the second pp unit which is generally on the ice for only :30 seconds or so |

The idea is to make your team better. When you're in the position Buffalo was in (i.e. nowhere to go but up), even a lateral move is unnecessary. Simply put, that trade could never have happened, Myers and Stafford could have walked in free agency, and Armia and Lemieux could have decided to start selling insurance in August, and the Sabres still wouldn't have been much worse off than they are now. That's how little of an impact the return of that trade has had in the win column so far.
I predicted at the beginning of the year that they wouldn't make the playoffs, in large part because this defense corps, one Bogosian (a key piece of the trade in question) is supposed to play a big part in, isn't strong enough to get them there. I haven't seen anywhere near enough to change my mind. This team is right where I thought they would be, closer to last place than a playoff spot. |
