theScore.com says Buffalo is ranked 10th in goals allowed per game. - Der Kaiser
And trending downwards. Since this team opened up when Eichel came back, and they got out of the defensive box that allowed them to score 1 goal a game, they've been exposed. |

Well, I would think this is obvious, but 6th, 10th or 12th in the league are all "nearly good enough" to get into the playoffs. |

They will not be there by season's end...unless of course, a significant trade is made. |

There are so many buses driving around out there, and I'm sure you walk across the street from time to time. How do you ever get out of bed in the morning when your world is so full of negative outcomes? |

From the beginning of the season, through the end of November, which included and ended that period, they were 8th. They're trending downwards.
Bylsma actually did a very good job masking their deficiencies through the first two months of the season, but once they figured out they needed to score some goals, that plan didn't work anymore. I like it better this way. It's entertaining at least. However, this is still not a playoff caliber team. |

It's really not. I have a lot of things going on that I consider "good". I just wish I could add the Buffalo Sabres to that list. That's all. |

from a few blogs ago,
"The Sabres haven't had a fully healthy d-corps for quite a while. In fact they've only played a handful of games with the defense as laid out over the summer.
Buffalo started out the season with Dmitry Kulikov out and upon his return one game into the season they played the next eight games with their top-six intact. From October 16 to November 1 Buffalo went 4-2-2 for 10 points. Projected out over an 82-game season that's 102 points for that stretch with a complete d-corps.
Also during that eight-game span the Sabres outscored their opponents by a combined 21-17 or an average of 2.63 to 2.13.
And they had their only three-game winning streak of the season outscoring their opponents by a combined 8-2 score."

People tend to forget that if we don't make the trade we don't get the best chance for McDavid or the fall back for Eichel. There aren't a lot of drafts with that 1-2 in them in case we lost out to McDavid.
Stafford was a nothing here, Myers needed a change of scenery because he lost his game here and he really isn't a difference maker now, Armia is a non-producing 4th liner. I didn't want to lose Lemieux but we'll see what he becomes and Jack Roslovic is a 25th overall who may become a very good player...or not the odds drop considerably when players are that late in the 1st round.
So, if we don't make that trade we lose Stafford for nothing or a 2nd or 3rd; don't fool yourself Myers, outside of a package, was not going to bring in a chit load. Remember the rumors we wanted Anthony Mantha from Detroit for him and they wouldn't budge? We are glorifying the parts that went away in that trade when the best ones, Lemieux and the 1st round pick we have no idea what they'll become and if kept Myers and stafford, even with their flaws, may have kept us just enough from getting Jack. |

I don't buy that one at all. This team was still finishing last.

Funny, this all started with us complimenting Kane's play too. |

That logic basically admits we traded for guys that were worse than the guys everyone couldn't wait to get rid of. |

Awful is relative to other teams awful. Hey if you want to justify Stafford and Myers as Sabres go at it. |

Stafford wasn't good when on this team. Myers is a different one being that he certainly would have been a vast improvement over Andre Benoit or Strachan or any of the other puffs we rolled out that year.
Really we traded two good players for one good player. I don't think Lemieux, Stafford or Armia amount to much...the two defenders were the good players. Kane is a good player. I think we lost, but if we had Strome instead of Jack and kept Myers...would that be worth it? I think not.
So we won, but we lost? Is that fair? |

I remember two equally bad teams that couldn't get much further from the bottom than they already were both before and after that trade. |
